Spring Fundraiser and a New Server (Merged)

No need. The finishing touches are being put on a mass PM. 3yards has outdone himself....
Well grad... the mass PM will work for registered users right now but what about future users? That's the email that I'm talking about. Send a welcome email to new users that sign up for BP explaining everything. Know what I mean?

Yes but I am not about to step on Clarity's toes and re-write his welcome email. Maybe he will change it when he returns, but it is his site and he should always be the first email/PM received.

There is not a better representative of this place...not even close.

I don't know if this is still done or not but is there a conformation email sent out to new users still? If so maybe we should outline some of the important things to them. Things such as letting them know that we have annual spring and fall fundraising drives, we sell shirts, make them aware of the FAQ and sticky threads to get themselves aquainted with the board, etc. If you guys (admins/mods) think this is something we should explore I would be happy to write something up... that is if Clarity approved.
That's why I wrote this at the end...

And above are my thoughts on that....

3yards is the closest thing we have to a Clarityesque writer....and he still does not match C-dog.

Your intentions are on target...but now is a time to be patient

As 21 has said, a mass PM will go out tonight. Hopefully that will catch the eyes of any members that aren't aware of the Spring Fundraiser.

SIMV, your idea has some merit. There is just so much going on right now that we need to keep focused on. Most importantly is the fundraiser. There is also the t-shirt project and possibly 2 raffles to keep an eye on. All of this while Clarity is ill makes for trying times. And 21 is correct when he says that Clarity will need to approve and implement such a change to the "Welcome Email". I suggest that you contact LongwoodBuck (Clarity's wife and temporary "go between") about your idea. Maybe even send her a rough draft of your proposed plan and ask her to run it by Clarity. Just be prepared for a wait. Even if they like the idea, they may not have the time to act on it right now. They may not even have the time to respond to you in a timely fashion. If they do like the plan but can't go forward on their end just yet, we could always try a more manual approach. I could get you the list of newest registered members and you (or maybe a group of folks) could send them the Welcome PM ... sort of like the BuckeyePlanet Welcome Wagon I guess. Food for thought.

Guys... I understand that Clarity has a way with words that no one else has. I was not saying that I SHOULD be the one to write a new welcome email I was just throwing a suggestion out there to make new members aware of what we are trying to accomplish, and was voulenteering to do it. Maybe I wasn't eloquent enough in my previous posts... and Grad, sorry about the "whatever you say sir" comment, I'm just a little frustrated about our fundraising efforts thus far and I am trying to come up with a quick solution.

everyone is right in what they are doing....we all care enough about this site and clarity that we want to spend our time finding ways to keep it viable and to make it better...

that speaks well of everyone involved.....any differences that are coming up are only out of a passion for a similar goal...

I was there 2 weeks ago...then I realized that my frustration or quick fixes would not change the facts. Good things are in the works...

We just all need to be patient.

I wasn't trying to come across as a dictator earlier, but you have to understand the spot the Admins are in...these are all great ideas and worth discussion. However, I feel as if I am a housesitter right now. I would not feel comfortable making major changes w/o Clarity's DIRECT involvement.

I hope you guys understand why we are slow to act and almost overly thorough in completing one project at a time.

Well said Alan.

SIMV, I say give your idea a try. Run it by LWB & Clarity. They invented this community project and are always open to ideas to improve BP.

It's safe to say that everyone is a bit frustrated that we haven't reached our goal yet. Trust me when I say that 21 (and quite a few others) is putting in a BUNCH of time behind the scenes as well. I think we are all getting a newfound appreciation for what Clarity really dealt with on a daily basis. So tempers might be a bit shorter than normal, and we might not be as focused as we would with Clarity to organize the troops, but there is no lack of effort or wanting on anyones part.

Trust & Faith. Yes, trust the Buckeye spirit and have faith that the Buckeye nation will come thru once again. The Spring Drive runs through the end of the month. We have the time and I for one believe that we'll get this done.

UPDATE: Well the mass PM failed. The system sent the PMs to the Administrators, Senior Moderators and Moderators but gave an error message each and every time I attempted to send to the general membership. We'll get the problem tracked down and try again.

Well, I finally got off my dead ass, backed away from the keyboard, and sent a check. I hope it gets to jaxville faster than the first one I sent SIMV for the T-shirt. That took almost 3 weeks, but to his credit, he never called me a liar for saying "The check is in the mail".

Really, for some reason, the USPS was that slow - he ended up getting 2 checks on the same day after I gave up on the first one.
