Spring Football - 2005 (mega-merge)

I'm not implying that Schlegel is not a very good player... just that I feel the whole defensive unit seemed to improve when D'Andrea was in.. IMO the two are both outstanding in the middle zone... but on the outside, I think MDA is quicker... and in pass coverage and the blitz, I think it's hands down MDA... he's an animal on the blitz...

and don't think for a second I wasn't appreciative AS was in there hobbling and all on that knee a couple games...but with both healthy... MDA gets my vote... we'll soon see if I'm right...

Just curious as to when D'Andrea went down. Reason being, last night I'm flipping through channels & ESPNU is showing tOSU / Wisky. It's 3rd and 20 something & Wisky split's the TE out in the slot & run the back out in the flat. Our middle backer absolutely gets caught looking @ the back in the flat letting the TE run right by him down the seem. Wisky picks up the first. Danielson was all over & they showed the replay. Our MLB was caught in no mans land. Danielson commented that while he was @ practice we must have practiced that same formation and play @ least 15 times that day & he was amazed the MLB didn't pick up on it. The wife came in & took control of the remote (had we won that would never have happened:wink2: ). The only reason I bring this up is I could not verify but it but while watching that play I thought to myself that it had to be Schlegal. I think both are very fine MLB's & definitely agree that D'Andrea is better sideline to sideline. Was wondering if anyone who has seen a substantial portion of practice new who was better in coverage?

I remember Danielson highlighting that play. Just from my memory of the game a few months ago, I think that was actually Bobby Carpenter, not Schlegel.

Rewatching the NCState reply, what sood out was MDA's pass rush causing both picks! We lost that when we lost MDA! Again, SPEED KILLS! What he could do for this defense is SCARY! Gotta stay healthy!

I like AS as much as the next guy, but I'd rather have MDA patrolling the middle. He's faster and is better in coverage. He's a better player than AS. Unfortunately, injuries are part of the game and that's killed his college career. But if he's healthy this year, OSU will have the absolute best linebacking corps in the nation.

Over with the linebackers, Luke Fickell has liked what he has seen of Marcus Freeman as well as redshirt freshman Curtis Terry.
didn't terry play special teams last year? i don't think he redshirted... i guess i could be wrong about it, but i doubt it

Thanks for the link.

Man, Patterson is a load. If he can play at end with some speed, the opposing offenses are in trouble. I know he had some conditioning problems last season, I hope he alleviated those this offseason. I think this guy could be a serious stud for us over the next 2 seasons. With Pitcock and Green blowing up the middle, I think we can get much better pressure on the backfield this season.
