Total stands at about $6800... only about $1200 to go to hit our goal of $8000.

First thing Barack Obama did last night (after declaring himself the Democtratic nominee for Prez) was donate to the BP Spring Drive (see here). If you go back look at his speech last night, you'll notice him sporting his donor badge. :biggrin:

Certainly his love of BP inspired his speech: Check it... "This is our moment. This is our time. Time to turn the page on outdated and draconian policies of Buckeye forums past. If Clarity's willing to work for it, and fight for it, and believe in it, then I am absolutely certain that generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the likes of CCI and Buckyle and good jobs to the jobless recruitniks; this was the moment when the fall of TSUN began to accelerate and our conference began to heal; this was the moment when we're winning the second Ten Year War, and securing our dynasty and restoring our image as the last, best hope in the Big Ten." In case you haven't looked or noticed, we're standing on something of a magical / mystical threshold right now with the 2008 Spring Drive...

I realize that numerology and such are entirely the domain of people like DBB and his apprentices, but sometimes having a little different way of looking at things helps.

You may ask, "What the heck is he talking about".

And you may ask yourself, "How do I work this?"
And you may ask yourself, "Where is that large automobile?"
And you may tell yourself, "This is not my beautiful house!"
And you may tell yourself, "This is not my beautiful wife!"

To which I'd tell you that I'm no DBB (David grown-Backwards Byrne), and in case you're not Muck and don't find yourself living in a shotgun shack, I'd also tell you that this opportunity comes only, ahem, ... once in a lifetime! :biggrin:

What it this magical mystery thing?

The total for the drive currently stands at $6921.29. That means that we're only $78.71 away from hitting the $7000 milestone (which would be 7/8 or 0.8750 of the way to our $8000 goal) and I don't need to tell anyone on this board (except maybe our beloved Illini guests) why that's an interesting fact.

No, my friends... If you'd stop looking at the bunch of lumpy cotton-balls that appear to be permanently encamped in my left cheek, and take a closer look at the delta there (it's all in the delta... the differential, as DBB would say) you'd notice that 78.71, written backwards is 1787!

Behold! And if you don't know the significance of that date to those of us who are true patriots (like Mike Vrabel as opposed to Tom Brady), you're either Dutch (May 1787 - Orangist troops attack Vreeswijk, Harmelen and Maarssen. Civil war starts in the Netherlands) or from Illinois (June 28 1787 - Princess Wilhelmina of Orange, sister of Frederick, the king of Prussia, is captured by patriots and taken to Goejanverwellesluis, and not allowed to travel to the Hague.)

What this all means (I'm fairly certain) is that we need our founding fathers of this board to come forward and lead (into the promised land) those of us who are still wondering around, lost in the desert of financial pressure, needing a gentle and ever-so-Tressel-like reminder of the fact that we must deal with the pain and play through it like the Buckeye warriors that we are.

So... Come forth ya'll and declare your independence by throwing off the chains of financial conservatism!

For the Hessians around here looking to get paid for participating in the revolution, what that means is you need to step up and at least pull your weight...
