Sports 'journalists' (Who Don't Work For ESPN)

Klatt gets a bad rap. I think he's more in tune with what's going on in college football than most. Might have a different opinion on targeting but hell, who doesn't?

I like him too, and I also like his take on targeting (I think he's a fan of the yellowcard/redcard model). Only thing that's frustrating/amusing is that he's still obsessed with the "JT was short" narrative, even after all these years. I think "JT was short" should be written on his headstone.

I saw a show on YouTube last week, he was a guest on someone else’s show. He discussed two or three snaps of the ball being a difference maker in how the world views Hairball. One was JT being short, another being the punt fumble going for a Sparty TD. It very well could be that he’s a tsun hater with a platform where he can come off as genuine while making a case for tsun to keep him as HC. He’d qualify as a very well compensated deep troll were that the case. I don’t have any evidence to suggest otherwise.

It was on Colin Cowherd. I was listening to it too this week.

Klatt’s perspective on targeting should be taken with the view that his own career was ended in the 2005 Big 12 championship game (Colorado was blown out 70-3 by Texas) when Drew Kelson knocked him unconscious and he was hospitalized for more than a week. By his own estimation he suffered ten concussions as Colorado’s starting QB from 2003-2005. He’s not entirely sure because he often avoided trainers after taking big hits for fear of losing playing time.

He’s very much in the player safety camp and is as anti-NCAA as Jay Bilas, but acknowledges football is a physical game and people get hurt. The kids know what they signed up for and defenders shouldn’t be punished for incidental contact that looks egregious in slow motion.

Yeah, it was Cowherd. I watched the YouTube video. It's always great when he's on Cowherd, but he was still yapping about "JT was short" (did he not see the video evidence??) He was right in the fact that that play had a huge impact. That was TTUN's best shot and Harbaugh knew it. I just think it's funny that Klatt is so dug in with his take on that play. I actually had to look at his bio to see if he was a TTUN alum (didn't remember him from Colorado).

His first visit to Oklahoma as a broadcaster was in 2016 for the Ohio State game. He said Oklahoma’s SID had hung this on the door to their suite in the press box.

Dude got hit like a red-headed step kid at CO so much, he doesn’t remember either.

That said, I like him.

Some of the talking heads have a take that they're willing to hitch their careers to, and die on that Hill, just like Skip Bayless' hatred for Lebron, Cowherd and his fight against QBs with backwards hats, etc
