What the heck is that supposed to mean, as it cannot be literal?
I thought the Simpsons took care of this one.

How could this be? I thought the Bible was to be read literally. "Stars" must mean "stars" to you Creationists, otherwise how to justify your ignoring of scientific observation based upon your insistence on reading Genesis literally?lvbuckeye;908208; said:fallen angels.
God made it clear what the signs were.. Christ did say not even He knew the hour at which the Son of Man will return, but provided ample signs as to when that time was.MaxBuck;908355; said:God made it pretty clear we would not know the time, and in any event there is f-all we can do about it. What a monstrous waste of time.
i wound up reading alot of it. I came away with some good information on the Holy Roman Church, and did alot of research on Simon Magnus.lvbuckeye;907599; said:i'm 55 pages in. it is compelling...

Like I said, you think you and your crewe have the Ultimate Answers as to where the Bible is to be read literally and where it is not. If you were to insist on reading ALL Biblical texts literally I would have more respect for your positions.lvbuckeye;908882; said:the answer is YES, there are instances of symbolism in the Bible; and NO, the Genesis account is not one of them.
I think the signs, as you call them, are anything but clear. Tell you what, when I start seeing multi-headed beasts flying in and out of Port Columbus, you won't have to convince me to put everything in order ...Bleed S & G;908909; said:God made it clear what the signs were.. Monstrous waste of time? In the sense that theres nothing we can do to stop it, sure is. But what interests me is, the bible is 3/4ths (maybe 2/3rds?) prophecy.. and the majority of that is concerning the end times.
So if the bible is truly Logos, it wasn't a monstrous waste of time to Him.

I think you put more stock in your tealeaf reading of "hidden meanings" in Biblical texts than you do in objective reality -- like the evidence provided in paleontologic, lithologic, stratigraphic, and archeologic observations. Reads a lot like superstition to me.
nearly 30% of the Bible is prophecy. prophecy does not exist to keep us on our toes, so to speak. it exists to give people who study the Word an understanding of what it going on, which in turn strengthens our faith, because we can see that God does what He said He's going to do. fulfilled prophecy proves that God is who He says He is.MaxBuck;909467; said:I think the signs, as you call them, are anything but clear. I think the point of prophecy is to remind us that Christ's return could be anytime, and we should not live our lives casually, but being ever mindful that the return could be as soon as today. That is why I call this fascination with "end times" a monstrous waste of time; we ought to live our lives the same way regardless of whether we think the End will be next week or 10,000 years in the future.
The reason I don't answer is that your questions are so transparent. But I'll answer now: I believe that God intends us to observe the Ten Commandments.lvbuckeye;910434; said:since you ignored it the first time, i'll ask you again: are the Ten Commandments part of the fable?
