Excellent observation.

The other factor is - where do these teams play? That is, if there is such a thing as homefield advantage, and say Florida State beats Michigan State, but they only played at the Doak, is that entirely fair? Probably not. My understanding is that SOuthern teams play Northern Teams in the South much more than they play Northern Teams while in the North. But, I don't have the numbers at the ready, so....

Over under on "Florida speed"

Anybody wanna make a guess on how many times we are gonna hear that the Gators are gonna win because we cannot handle their "Florida speed". I heard that ad nauseum back in 02 in regards to criami and it looks like we matched up with em pretty good  I do think at times their defensive speed is gonna give us fits, but at the same time I don't think they are ready to deal with our "Ohio speed"

HA! Actually, I don't think it will come up very often. 2002 was totally different. Miami was the unstoppable, unbeatable, unflappable team who merely needed to show up to gain their second straight title. The Buckeyes were the team who won ugly every week and had a hurt tailback to boot.

This year, the Buckeyes are the juggernaut and Florida is the underdog. I think the "Florida Speed" comments will simply come from biased Gator fans who are just talking smack. The national media won't go there this time.

I'll be really suprised to see anybody pick UF to beat us. We've recieved a lot of attention all year for our speed/athleticim. UF should not be overlooked though. They do have a good amount of talent on offense, Percy Harvin, in particular, concerns me. They've been pretty creative in designing plays for Tebow as well.

Funny thing there is a lot of that ultimate speed and total team smack talk going on - all of it from Michigan fans conveying their opinions of the Buckeyes superior team, and all of it on Stadium & Main.

Frankly I wish they'd shut up, else some UF fans might also assume we believe in some mythical capability of the Buckeyes to boot anyone of the field.

2002 was totally different.

There are some remarkable similarities between the two games, starting with a second year coach whose team squeaked by week after week and going up against an unbeatable foe.

The big difference is that JT will not let this team go to AZ with the idea in their head that they just need to show up.

florida has more than enough talent and athleticism to beat us but their coaching is their major downfall so i like our chances. with that being said we cant end up being the victim of our own good. we dont want to let fla be that osu team that we had in 02.

My point was that from the Buckeyes' point of view, this year is totally different. However, you bring up an interesting point in that the roles are almost completely reversed.

But... something tells me we don't get ex-football players printing and selling NC Victory Party tickets a week before the game is even played.

Its going to be more of the "the worst of the SEC is better than anything in the B10" type of stuff.

We haven't played anyone as good as UF, they play someone better than us every week, yadda yadda yadda.

Check out the Florida boards, there is a lot of talk about their speed and our D's inability to handle it. I'm not really worried about our defense, they held their own against some speedy guys this season. The better question for me is: can their D keep up with Teddy, Gonzo, Pitty, Robo, Small, etc. AND handle them all at once? That, to me, will be the real issue in the speed category.

You are probably right for the most part, but we are already hearing Mark May say "osu is fast on the outside, but florida is fast everywhere".....woe is us...

I agree, if there is smack this is how it will manifest itself. FL has got a nice team. The defense is strong. I think speed is on OSU?s side however. FL has not seen an offense like OSUs.

Living in Gator nation it will be interesting to see how the FL fans treat me at work this week.
