Coach Dantonio is supposed to be in the press box - best of luck to him.

It's easier to use the headsets than to send text messages from a hospital bed.

The BTN's discussion of this game is highlighting the 'Little Brother' comment from Bike Hart after the 2007 game.

Media members told Dantonio of the comment shortly after that, asking him for a reaction. He simply said:

"Pride comes before the fall."

They asked him to expound on that, and he responded:

"Pride comes before the fall."

Sparty has won the last two games. Well played, Coach Dantonio.

Well, last year scUM won all 4 nonconference games, beat Indiana, and lost the remaing 7 conference games.

So far this year scUM won all 4 nonconference games and beat Indiana. Will history repeat itself?

I was thinking about this last night when they showed it, and I thought to myself, wow, Dantonio really hit the nail on the head. Not just with the two games vs. State, but basically overall up in AA.

Man puts off pacemaker for Spartans

DETROIT -- A 69-year-old Detroit man has put off surgery to install a pacemaker in his chest so he can watch a college football game on TV this weekend. Major Hester deferred the procedure scheduled for Thursday until next week, after Saturday's big showdown between No. 18 Michigan and No. 17 Michigan State in Ann Arbor. The retired office supply clerk is a devout Spartans fan and he can't risk something going wrong on the operating table that would prevent him from seeing the game.
"You never know," Hester told The Detroit News. "It's like going into combat. You may come home alive or you may come home dead."
Hester suffers from cardiomyopathy, a condition where the heart muscle is weakened. He says he's willing to take the risk of putting off the surgery.
"Whatever happens, I want to see the game," he said.

I think this is the main reason that UM fans hate Dantonio so much--because he accurately predicted their collapse.

did anything come of Dantonio and the text message coaching? I thought that was some sort of rule violation.

No, and nothing will either since I believe it is not a violation of NCAA rules. Alvarez did the same type of thing when he was hospitalized after his knee surgery in 1990.

I heard some TV talking head say that it was OK since it was from outside the stadium.

I don't understand why it would ever be a violation to be communicating with his own coaches during a game, unless he was away from the game due to an NCAA restriction in the first place. Of course, NCAA rules arent always logical.
