Dear Meth Omps,

You're quite the sport, so I'll try to keep this polite and rational.

Have you ever thought of discussing your Ohio State obsession with a qualified mental health professional? If not, I'd strongly recommend it.

Folks with contrarian personalities like yours -- who enjoy hanging around with people who they know don't like them -- are usually trying to work out a deep-seated inferiority complex. They don't feel worthy being with their natural peer group, so they find a group who they know instinctively will find them annoying. They take a strange comfort in being disliked, because it reinforces their belief that they are unlikable. It's what makes them feel "normal".

These are the guys who live in Oklahoma and root loudly for Texas -- or go to Redskins games wearing Dallas colors.

You can overcome this with professional help. If your Daddy wasn't nice to you when you were a little Meth Omp, the therapist will connect with your inner child and help little Methie feel all warm and cuddly. Or put you on Prozac, which might be easier ...once you're off the Meth.

Go hang with your So-Cal homeys, Meth. You're a good person, darn it, and people will like you.

Have a nice day. :)

I think USC looked vunerable. But hey, they were vulnerable last year (they did lose a game to an unranked team, didn't they?).

USC looks to have problems with its Recievers. The Mike Williams loss looks more pronounced than some think. They threw the ball (or attempted to, anyway) to Jarrett a lot, and that's not a good sign. And if Leinhart's elbow continues to give him problems, they could be in trouble at some point.

That defense didn't look all too imposing, either. They looked succeptible to the option and a roll-out QB. There were also a ton of dropped balls and long passes allowed by the LBs and Secondary. If Randall would've played better, this might be a different story.

But their backfield is loaded. White and Bush are legit.

ash: "That's why I think they won't win it."

No question. Back to Back Titles is a difficult thing to do. Even last year's Title for them had a lot of luck involved: the first being that there was no undefeated team, the second is that they survived a bad loss to Cal, and the third is that they got to play the Bowl game on their home turf instead of in LSU's home state.

However, that being said, their schedule this year is very easy. The only questionable game they have (IMO) is Cal, and that's at home. Plus, I really don't see an undefeated team this year. So they might still have a shot, warts and all.

Don't you have to win the title to win back to back titles??? LSU is going for the back to back champion title. NOT usc.

USC looked beatable-sure. Who was the last CFB champion that ran the table and looked unbeatable? I'd probably say a Miami team or two recently, maybe. Other than that...?
I mean, sure, they struggled with VT. VT, who is known as a very strong first half team with a lot of talent. Frank Beamer knows how to (not?) coach and he kept his team in the game while he was wholly overmatched.
USC looked like a team with one of the best playmakers in the country, I'll tell you that. Ok, so we should stop painting the end zones for USC's title, but I still think they deserve that #1 ranking until someone can knock them off.
LSU will repeat? What if they look as vulnerable as USC? I mean... Georgia is supposed to be the team out of the SEC this year. Plus--it's the SEC. It's sort of like the B10... there's a whole lot of teams that are good... and 2 teams that kinda stand out above the rest.
Tibor is the king of one-liners.

Hold on, now. SC won their share of the Title last year. You gotta give them credit for that.
No, not really. What are we (meaning Ohio State and every other college football team) playing for? To be crowned the BCS national champion. To win the BCS national title game. Like LSU did last year, like Ohio St. did the year before.

If we were playing to be crowned the AP # 1 well...shucks... then I guess mission accomplished.

But if you polled 100 out of 100 coaches what their ultimate goal is - it would be to win the national championship. That is the BCS. (which oh btw - has the A.P. as part of it). Would you rather be a part of something or winner of the whole damn thing?

One last question - if you could have been LSU or USC last year... who would you have picked? LSU won the title everyone is shooting for.

BSH: "What are we (meaning Ohio State and every other college football team) playing for?"

You're playing for the National Championship, which is awarded by TWO POLLS, not one. If they're split polls, then you have two National Champions. Who cares if what the BCS Title game is in that case? scUM was just as formidable a foe as Oklahoma.

"But if you polled 100 out of 100 coaches what their ultimate goal is - it would be to win the national championship. That is the BCS."

Wrong. There are three trophies to be given: the AP, Coaches, and Bowl Trophy. The Bowl Trophy in itself doesn't award a National Title, but chances are 1000%, that if you walk away with that Trophy, you are the National Champion.

The National Championship is awarded by the AP and Coaches Polls. And USC won one of those polls. Case in point: Ohio State won the the Fiesta Bowl Trophy two years in a row, but only one was for a National Championship. The Sugar Bowl Trophy is NOT the National Championship.

"One last question - if you could have been LSU or USC last year... who would you have picked? LSU won the title everyone is shooting for."

It wouldn't matter to me one bit on either side. Everyone is shooting for both polls. You're telling me that if you won the AP poll, it means nothing??

1. You are playing for the national championship which is awarded by two polls plus computers, NOT just one A.P. poll!! If there are split polls, it will be figured out by the BCS which takes into account BOTH polls PLUS the computers... much more all inclusive than a single poll.

2. Absolutely right I am. Any coach on this planet wants to win the national championship. Not the A.P. title, not the coaches poll title, not the mcfadden title or dickinson or the kalamazoo city paper title, but the BCS national championship! Of course this isn't awarded by the bowl itself (i.e. sugar, fiesta etc.), I never said it was. It is the ADT BCS National Championship Trophy that everyone wants there hands on.

3. Shocking that it wouldn't mater for you to win the step child championship! It would matter to me if we did win it, of course. Great accomplishment. But not the goal or ultimate accomplishment. You play to win the BCS. Facts are facts. The A.P. is NOT the ultimate reward. I'd take the espn/usa today # AND the BCS national championship over the AP champ any day and twice on Sunday. Remember the AP is part of the BCS - the bigger picture. If you have any doubts - see what ads are run on TV. See what they always talk about - the BCS nat'l champ. You won't find one ad running talking about winning the AP title.... for a reason. IT just doesn't matter if you don't win the BCS.

I'll tell you what I am shooting for: the Orange Bowl. Why? Because it is the only chance to gain a unified title. If the coach's poll wasn't owned by a Disney contract, USC would've finished #1 in both polls. Former BCS commish Mike Tranghese said it himself: The purpose of the BCS is to match the top two BCS teams in a bowl. It is advertised as a system that eliminates split titles, but really it only makes it more likely that there will be a unified title.

Well, of course, the BCS has an entire conglomerate behind it. Disney owns ABC and ESPN. It also runs the BCS. I'm sure Mickey Mouse, himself, will come out and endorse the thing if they want him to.

I wish USC fans like meatthong would quit bitchin' about not being the BCS champ. They whined about not being considered as the best team in 2002 even though they got beat twice. They actually were given a split title last year despite losing on the road to a team that was 2-3 at the time.
