Well, I can't speak for everybody, but go back and check...I said it would probably be a tough game. A few others did too. There is some backpeddling though. But, USC fans don't do that do they? :!

Actually, I don't think so.

Navy is a tough first game with a new linebacking corps and many new faces on O and D because of its quirky offense. It's not a tough eighth game. Actually, we had little trouble with them until we thought we had the game won and took our foot off the pedal, as Pryor admitted doing in an interview.

I think people here have had disdain for Notre Dame scheduling all three service academies and the ESPiNs of the world positioning it as if they had played Florida, Ohio State, and USC. One of those wonderful "sports analysts" makes a point of saying that "Ohio State will think twice before ever scheduling a service academy as a first game again." That's the kind of crap that people react to on this board.

Looking at the Barkley's highlights from the SJSU game, one thing popped out at me, nearly every pass was run off a play-action fake. Most of the plays were quick routes, but I still thought that either he didn't care about selling the fake, or he's just plain not good at it. Against SJSU, it didn't matter much, because the D almost never had a man within 5 yds before he made the pass, although, the one time a DE did get penetration, it resulted in a sack. That's something I think will be night and day between SJSU and OSU. If Barkley tries to half-arm the fake hand-off against the Buckeyes, there's a good chance he'll have a Silver Bullet right in his grill.

The purpose of the playaction fake is to show the ball to the defense. Depending on the defense, the defenders' responsibilities often change once the QB drop gets the QB past the the RB. Showing the ball to the defenses reminds the LB not to complete his drop, or freezes him. The USC running game is excellent and that demands respect for the playaction fake.

Ok Buckeye fans, I'ts monday and time to focus on this upcoming game with USC. The Navy game is over and been rehashed to death and just as the football team is doing we need to start concentrating our efforts against the unruptured Trojans (pun intended) this coming Saturday.

Let's start by jump starting our brains into high support mode and start the cheers for our Buckeyes.

I always start with the idea that the freshman QB will find a way to lose games if we just pressure him and stop the run. This is where I feel we will take advantage of Mr. Barkley and come out A winner come Saturday night.

So may I be the first to say;
GO BUCKEYES
GO BUCKEYES
GO BUCKEYES

USC is going to hand the ball of 5 out of 6 times. The 1 out of the 6 times will be playaction hitting a fullback or a tight end or a receiver on a come back route. I really don't see PC calling many passing plays for the forshy lama but we could see tons of screens and plays with not much decision making and coverage identification.

Question for the football guru's, with USC's obviously strong running game, what do you see as our attack plan? Last year it seemed like we were really afraid of the pass and played on our heels as they ran it down our throats. What adjustments would you expect to see? More blitzing? Man to man?

USC rarely travels to face elite opponents in the OOC. That has changed somewhat during the P.C. era.

Talk to a USC fan about the big ten and they laugh. Yet, when you look at the record of Michigan, Penn State and OSU USC fans quickly point out is how they "own" the big ten.... except for one small problem.

USC almost never travels to face these teams away from the comfy confines of home field advantage. USC has faced Michigan, PSU and OSU a whopping 41 times with an impressive 23-17-1 record. Good reason for 'SC fans to be obnoxious..... that is until you look at the road record.

USC when they travel to Happy Valley 0-2. Ann Arbor 0-1 and Columbus 3-4

While I do have concerns about what I saw with the OL and defense, I am encouraged that the USC football team is likely to take the buckeyes quite a bit more lightly than if they were playing, say Florida. I like the fact that we are an under dog. I just hope that the USC football team is taking OSU as lightly as their fan base.

There is no better big game coach than Pete Carroll.

There is no better big game team than USC.

They blow it against teams they should beat by 4 touchdowns, but put them on the big stage against a name team and they show up.

This is the marquee game on Saturday night and the whole country will be watching.

USC will come in with both guns blazing so Ohio State better be ready.

Shit. A 6 point dog in your own house? I wonder if that might get the juices flowing amongst the O linemen. It'd be nice to see them show up with a little emotion on Saturday night.
