we hit the [censored] out of that kid.
I think southcampus hit on the main reason that a knowledgable football fan would be "more" confident regarding the other team playing a true freshman QB on the road in a hostile environment. Basic football strategy shows that sacks arent the only way that a game can be changed in regard to a QB. Pressure on both sides of the ball creates a change in time of decision making and in way that teams react to that pressure. Pressure though it is mostly seen in the physical form is just as much a mental aspect of the game. If a player thinks that someone is bearing down on them(QB in the pocket, WR over the middle) it changes the way they think and the way their body reacts to that(errant throws, shortarming catches).
A true freshman is normally in a position where they do not have the luxury of knowing how defenses bring that pressure due to lack of film time and lack of practice time. Along side of that if timing with the other players is missing then that presents a new issue (and most believe that a fall camp doesn't allow enough time to build that timing and trust). You don't have to hit a QB to force mistakes. This is all normal football thinking. Rookies in the NFL aren't normally as quick at reacting in pressure situations just as freshman aren't normally prepared to react either. As stated before, no one here is disputing his talent level or that he can develop those traits and in turn be a great QB(ala McCoy) but a knowledgable fan like yourself should be easily able to see why OSU fans would feel better about this game.
To put it into perspective, You would feel better if Kenny Guiton was playing, wouldn't you?
