We're confident that our QB will be able to manage the game better than your QB, which will undoubtedly be the key to winning this defensive showdown.

we hit the [censored] out of that kid.

I think southcampus hit on the main reason that a knowledgable football fan would be "more" confident regarding the other team playing a true freshman QB on the road in a hostile environment. Basic football strategy shows that sacks arent the only way that a game can be changed in regard to a QB. Pressure on both sides of the ball creates a change in time of decision making and in way that teams react to that pressure. Pressure though it is mostly seen in the physical form is just as much a mental aspect of the game. If a player thinks that someone is bearing down on them(QB in the pocket, WR over the middle) it changes the way they think and the way their body reacts to that(errant throws, shortarming catches).

A true freshman is normally in a position where they do not have the luxury of knowing how defenses bring that pressure due to lack of film time and lack of practice time. Along side of that if timing with the other players is missing then that presents a new issue (and most believe that a fall camp doesn't allow enough time to build that timing and trust). You don't have to hit a QB to force mistakes. This is all normal football thinking. Rookies in the NFL aren't normally as quick at reacting in pressure situations just as freshman aren't normally prepared to react either. As stated before, no one here is disputing his talent level or that he can develop those traits and in turn be a great QB(ala McCoy) but a knowledgable fan like yourself should be easily able to see why OSU fans would feel better about this game.

To put it into perspective, You would feel better if Kenny Guiton was playing, wouldn't you?

Last year, a disunified Ohio State team turned in a shocking performance. They were embarrassed on both sides of the ball. Word is that Big Ten ball is pathetic.

That sounds like one hell of a lot of reasons to have worked hard over the summer for one team. I really don't expect this game to be close, for all of the reasons that people have posted in this thread, and because I just think the Buckeyes really have something to prove.

There is a reason that Petey stomped out of his QB's coming out party for the NFL last year.

I'm just saying OSU fans seem to feel a lot more confident than previously, I don't know why.
It ain't rocket science.

because they're fans. I'm pretty sure you know exactly why.
Get your head out of your ass.

I'm just following you around posting this because I find it so damned funny for some reason.

You guys aren't giving him the answer he's looking for. Our bad, USCStephen. We got in a little over our heads. USC is our master. We have no chance. Barkley is Elway on steroids. USC by 42...after the 1st quarter.
This.

I know they spit the bit in a game they shouldn't just about every year, but no other team in the nation has shown the ability to handle the big game better than USC.

doesnt matter

true freshman QB on the road against a top 10 team, it doesnt matter who you are, it isnt working out well

the USC fans are comedy right now

I just dont see how can you EXPECT to win on the road against a top 10 team in the second game of the season with a true freshman QB

they sound like the select group of Ohio State fans who were thinking Ohio State was going to go to USC last year and win without Beanie Wells.....

I dont want to hear any excuses from USC fans if they lose, the "but we had a true freshman QB" excuse doesnt fly when you are touting the guy as some super force and pretty much expecting to win the game before hand

If Barkley starts in the 'Shoe, here's what I'd like to see on USC's first 3rd and long: Stack the strong side of the line, showing an overload blitz, perhaps doubling up DEs, but probably Rolle or Sabino lining up outside the DE, lots of movement. Have either the DE or LB drop back into a zone where the blitz was to come from, DBs jam the WRs to throw off timing on quick routes. The most important part: Send Hines from Barkley's blind side, and tell him to cream Barkley, no matter what. I don't care how good this kid was in HS, he's never seen as much defensive talent, running an unfamiliar scheme in a live situation, as he will on 9/12.

I'm sorry to see what is happening in this thread lately :bicker:

Anyway, I just got back from USC's scrimmage at the Coliseum today. Beyond the boiling temperature it was a really good time.

Barkley looked good. Threw one interception, which was a pass that got tipped way into the air by the receiver and then caught by the defense. It wasn't a bad throw by any means. Overall he threw really well, got a few touchdowns on top of it. They were piping in crowd noise to simulate.

Big loss for us as Ronald Johnson (RoJo) caught a fantastic Barkley pass and took it down to the three, but then got hit and word is that it's a cracked clavicle, putting him out for 6-8 weeks. Big shame as the guy is awesome.

Corp came in near the end and looked to be running pretty well, and did so on a number of plays.

Brice Butler seemed to be making a big statement to start at WR, came down with a few nice catches.

Anyway, it was a lot of fun, Barkley is looking solid so far, hope he can keep it up heading into the Horseshoe.
