Another thing has been bothering me. On short yardage situations, we typically hand it off to Boom who has to avoid tacklers who have already overwhelmed our O Line. Don't you think we'd easily get the first down/touchdown more times than not if we just let a 6'5'', 240 lb beast go straight up the middle right off the snap? I believe it's called a QB sneak in some circles. I believe it's in every other playbook in football.

Just seems like we were making it harder than it had to be.

i really believe tressel wants to be like an old big ten coach and run the ball right down the other teams throat.

which really hurts us this year because boom is not a great runner between the tackles. get him the ball in space!

I'm saying that we should play with a 2002-esque offense. Why fix what isn't broken?

Daveeb, when you say 'I-formation' what set are you referring? I'm guessing 21 personnel in the traditional I-pro set. The 'I' is really nothing more than the backfield alignment.

As far as passing goes, I'd rather see more of the 3 step game and playaction with sprintouts and boots. Pryor rolling the edge is something that needs to be exploited...but right now its needs to be polished more. He seemed bound and determined that he was not going to tuck and run.

When the team does spread, I'd love for some motion packages for option looks, pre-snap read help, and exploiting matchups in recognized coverages. Florida is excellent at this...motion forces a defense to show its hand early.

I did think the playcalling and scheme were pretty good against USC...I thought execution was poor at times and I do believe a few coaching decisions are debatable. However, I also know that JT was in that 'damned if you do and damned if you don't' zone. If either of his choices worked out, the decision would have been praised...it didn't so it was an awful decision. That is just how it goes.

I don't know what the fuck it's gonna take for people to realize that Boom is a ferocious runner.

I think he's better between the tackles than Beanie...or at least will be.

We were in shotgun like 60% of the time, it's not that he want to just pound it all the time.

And are you kidding me about the Boom not being a between the tackles runningback? Did you see what he did to Taylor Mays?

I purposely waited to post anything on this thread until I had a chance to really look at the game with a non-emotion filled eyes.

OSU played hard, and they played their hearts out. I never saw "quit" the whole night. This is a special team and I see great things in the future with these guys.

The D played lights out the whole game.

The O still is trying to find their identity, but looked pretty darn good against a very stout defense in USC.

Special teams were the standard Tressel era squad, very solid and almost got a score.

Overall, what I take away from this game is that OSU is a very good, young team where the sky is the limit as far as potential. These young men should be proud of themselves in how they played in this game.

OK, it is time now to forget about the past, this is Toledo week. Go Bucks!!!

I think my final thoughts on the game will be:

Silver bullet dominance over USC offense

tOSU offense just could not execute regularly after the 1st quarter when they had the opportunities. That and (1 or 2) coaching decisions trump the USC defense in this game. (I am including penelties in lack of execution)

My "feeling" for the game was that it was bookended by USC, with tOSU really in control most of the game despite the offensive struggles (reminds me of the 05 Texas game)

Tressel has been inconsistent on Tresselball. Just when you think he will use the "most important play of the game", he doesn't. When he needed to break out of the mold, he went back to or stayed with Tresselball. He and Pryor appear to be stuck in this (phase?) of stepping out of their comfort zone, instead of doing what they do best.

On to Toledo-in-Cleveland

I thought Posey would've got the offensive player of the game but regardless I understand why the decision was made. And you're damn right Boom gets hit of the week. He trucked Taylor Mays, I'm going to sing that to the mountaintops until I can get the video off my DVR.

One play that no one has mentioned that could have been a huge play for us. Every time Stoneburner was in, he stayed in to block, I counted at least five plays in the first half. My brother and I both pointed this out and said man JT is setting something up here. On the play where Saine almost had that amazing one handed grabbed on the sideline near the endzone, Stoneburner ran his first route of the night and was wide open down the seam. Unfortunately USC blitzed and TP did not have a chance to scan back to Stoneburner's side till it was too late but he was wide open on the seam. If the blitz was picked up it would have been an easy 6.

Simple; when I look at the end of the game and see Herron, 18 carries, 120 yards, or when I look at the end of the season and see Herron: 1,256.

I like the kid. I think he plays with a ton of heart, but he's still in prove-it mode and I don't think he's getting much help from the (here we go again) O - Line.
