I have not been so proud of the buckeyes the way they played in a long while. Kudos to the team (especially defense)...and the fans for being so loud. I thought I heard the cheers all the way from my Westerville home!.

Terrell looked rattled out there, especially the last drive. He is going to cry when he reallizes how open Carter was. His trust in Posey is going to bite him again if he does not change that habbit. He missed so many wide open receivers last night because he does not recognize the defensive scheme. He also looked very timid when he ran the ball...except one run. I do not think he is night and day compared to last year. He will be better though as this is only his 10th games or so.

O-line...well, what can you say? These "Jumbo" set to get one or two yards is so slow developing that by the time the tailback gets the ball, the safety could have left the field to piss and still make it back in time to assist on the tackle.

Not getting seven in the redzone is once again our nemesis. It will be unless we change our play calling in the area. How about just speard the field and make the defense chase you once in a while? I am sure all these things have been said.

I've never heard it nearly as loud as last night in that stadium. The Bucks Defense looked like the 02 team, flyin' around to the ball. Very impressive preformance from our defense.

Pryor did not play well, IMHO. He has got some serious work to do is he is to become an NFL QB. He also missed a wide open Carter on one of the last plays as he was locked into Posey as he was most of the evening. When I say open, I mean like 50 yards of grass open. That would have been a missed pre-snap read as Grad mentioned in another post.

I also noticed this alot of the night:

----------X
-------------------X
---------X--X
---------------X
X -----X-X-X-X-------------X
O------OOOOO-------------O
----------O---O----O
----------O

Why we were not using the red O on some kind of bubble screen our quick pass I'll never know. "Take what the defense gives you" comes to mind. Throw Ray, Saine, or Thomas in there and thats a 4 -5 yarder all night. It was open nearly everytiime we went to that formation.

It's easy to second guess, I can understand why JT didn't take the 3 points in the 2nd half - "if we miss the 52 yarder, they get the ball on the 50 - and the way our defense has been playing, let's pin 'em deep."

Well I got exactly what I'd hoped for and that was a competitive game. This one particularly hurts because I feel USC had no answer for what we were doing on defense (which is amazing news for the rest of the year). I'm proud of our defense for really taking it to them on so many different occasions. How many times did they give us field position to take advantage of? We couldn't convert a 1st and goal inside the 5, we missed a blocked punt, and of course our offense gave them 7 points. I know Pryro's INT wasn't a pick 6 but it may as well should've been. I'm very encouraged for the rest of the year thats for sure.

However, there's only really two disappointments from last night as far as I was able to gather. First off If I didn't know any better I would've picked Pryor as the one starting as a true freshman. I heard an excellent point over the radio last week leading up to the game from Herbie. "When pryor's under fire will he remember his footwork and his technique or will he revert to his old ways". Locking onto recievers, falling back as he threw, and IMO most importantly not running with the football were things I really wish he could've done better.

No one player is responsible for a loss but wow I never thought he'd play like that. The most frustrating thing for me watching the game was just how open some of his running lanes were and he NEVER took them. Look Troy Smith was the same way as a 5th year senior, but at this juncture in his career Pryor needs to be taking off more often than not when it's not there or when he's not sure. He's an element that other defenses won't face all year but he's got to use that element.

Also I cannot believe how much props Barkley Truely got last night. It wasn't him! it was Joe Mcknight! I could throw a Delay route to someone covered by a linebacker! He passed for less than 50% and I thought his play was identical's to Pryor's. I thought Neither played well. The game was eventually won by a great individual effort on Mcknights part.

Bottom line is just as Pryor said after the game "Should've beat them, point blank"... Well win the rest of the games and we'll have a shot to prove that we can once again. One things for sure I'm very confident that this team is going to be awful tough to stop once Pryor losens up a bit and just plays.

We got the ball around their side of the field around 2-3 other times. You couple that with an INT returned to the 1 yard line and you won't win many games against a team of USC's caliber.

Big shout outs to- Boom, Posey, ROLLE, Homan, THE WHOLE DEFENSIVE LINE ROTATION, Saine, Sanzo, Amos/Torrence, and The safties

I've noticed that Tressel always says how Pryor gets nervous before games... (shoot I would too) but once Pryor just again settles down and plays we're going to be pretty lights out. This season is shaping up like 2005 so far.

I love our defensive line though. They were standing toe to toe with maybe the best offensive line ever and wont the battle overall.

I have only read a few pages of this thread, so I'm sure this has already been said:

1) The stadium and the crowd were AMAZING last night. The noise really had USC rattled, especially in the 3rd quarter.

2) I hope TP isn't too down on himself. He's still young. He'll learn a lot from this.

3) It seems when we grab a lead, we play not to lose instead of cranking it up. I'm sure Tressel has his reasons, but as a fan it's really frustrating.

4) Brian Rolle is really impressive. He was all over the place last night. The defense as a whole looked great. They just ran out of gas on that last drive.

5) Saine looked great at WR! I wasn't expecting him to be the secret weapon. I expected Ballard to play a larger receiver role, but I think his blocking was needed more than anything.

6) I'm just glad it was a close, exciting game. Honestly, I expected us to lose by more than 7. We're young, but it's a fun team to watch.

My Bro called me from michigan and said, "..they're playing Terrelle like he's Boekman". Yes he needs to run more. Spielman's words last week "..he(Pryor) may be the best running back in the country"
Mix it up! Keep the opposition guessing.

Well, I have read all the posts and I have to say I am proud of the way the team fought last night.

Let the national pundits say what they will about OSU football, not ready for prime time, not one of the elite, etc. You know it doesn't matter!!

Before the game I would have bet you the Buckeye Players were wondering if they can hung with USC, especially after our first offensive series. Now after the game what everybody (not in scarlet and grey on the field) says doesn't matter a hoot because the players now know that they can play with anybody...As several players have already commented "we should have beat them"....

If the team continues to give the effort from last night and takes and learns from the experience and continues to build from this the sky is the limit.......

It's no wonder we've had 2 D coordinators hired away from us(Dantonio, Snyder), but our only Offensive Coordinator under Tress continues to draw a paycheck. People keep saying it's play calling, BS! IMO, Tress runs a Huge and Complex organization at an awesome level. tOSU is chronically in the top 10 and big ten champs. I don't understand Tress' blind spot for Jim Bollman. The above numbers don't lie. Someone please explain this.

It seems like many people think the Trojans are set for an easy cruise through the Pac10. A few of their conference foes are sure to expose their secondary's apparent weaknesses. If the Bucks can strengthen the passing attack as the season goes, I think we'll see them in the RB against UCLA or Cal. The Bruins might well be strong enough to beat SC, but it's too early to tell of course. Maybe to show up in LA (and win) without SC even being invited would be revenge at least as sweet.

That's what i'm saying... Playing defense and special teams in the past has won us games, but it hasn't done much for us lately. Well, besides when we play inferior opponents. We need offensive direction.

While i'm happy we competed don't mistake that for not feeling the pain of a loss.
