Just when you thought the Oline was going to be generating very few spring stories with 5 starters returning...sophomore Tyron Smith has been making a lot of noise at RT, and Pete Carroll has indicated that Smith may be leading for the position. Butch Lewis was injured for part of spring and has been playing guard the last couple practics. It's not known whether this is permanent or merely the result of injuries on the interior of the line.

Seven practices down, eight to go. Unfortunately, USC Rivals has made their QB competition tracker premium. However, nobody seems to have told FanHouse as they report:

Corp - 140 rating, 120 throws
Barkley - 139 rating, 121 throws
Mustain - 124 rating, 102 throws

That's worth a "Yo!"

Sounds like Barkley will be 'it' for 3-4 years......but for OSU fans, that might very well eliminate USC from the Montana sweepstakes. I know that there's many other teams in the pool, but to eliminate the 'hometown' team is huge.......although Petey is such a great recruiter, he might get Nick yet, and convince him to sit behind Barkley for most of his college career.

For how close a freshman is keeping up with the competition.

To be honest, I expected Barkley to compete for the starting spot. Corp and Mustain were good prospects but Barkley is simply amazing. However, he did make a lot of bad decisions throwing the ball his senior year and that is the only thing that could stop him from being the starter. In any event, whoever USC's starter is, they are going to be good as always.

I agree, but his high school team his senior year wasnt very good. His top receiver I believe was only a sophmore.
I guess the point I am trying to make is IMO he tried to force the ball and tried hard to make plays that really werent there.
I seen him play several times last year.

Malcolm Smith is blowing up this spring at WLB.
Gallippo has been consistent playmaker at MLB aslong as he stays healthy he will be fine and probably be better for what the defense needs compared to Rey M.
Mike Morgan: there has been very little news about him, but he remains the starter.

The real difference will be the DL who is outperforming last years 10 fold.
