Packers necktie gets car salesman fired

Seriously, whoever fired this guy needs to get a fucking life. That you'd throw someone into unemployment in this economy because they wore a tie with the logo of an opposing team is ridiculous. It says something about how dysfunctional this country has become in many respects. We obsess about a child's game to the point of attempting to ruin a guy's life while remaining completely oblivious to the forces that are pushing for those Chevrolets to be built in China within a decade.

Worry about what fucking matters, people.

The affiliation with Green Bay is really not that noticeable on the tie. I don't understand the reaction of some people. If I fired everyone who have worked with over the years the line would be pretty long I tell you.
On the other hand if you wore a Scum necktie.......

Not saying that this is a good excuse, but the manager claims to have done advertising campaigns with the Bears. Maybe it looks bad for the dealership to be spending money on the Bears while an employee is openly supporting the Packers.

I think it's bull[Mark May]. But that's all I can think of.

I think it would depend on if Illinois is an "at will" state. If so, and unless the employee is covered by an employment contract or collective bargaining agreement, you can pretty much whack them because you don't like their haircut so long as it can't be tied to any form of recognized discrimination (race, gender, age etc).

Now, since the guy is African-American, he probably could find a lawyer to do a little digging and potentially discover that race was the real reason and the tie was just a convenient excuse. Seems like the employee is taking the high road and just moving on to his new job though.

Lawyers feel free to correct my understanding of at will employment if mistaken. Stand warned, however. I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
