I'd like to beat the hell out of all the religious zealots at MADD that have hijacked the drunk driving issue as a means of harrassing and ultimately criminalizing all social drinking.

Statistically, a drunk driver who causes an injury/death accident is a repeat offender with a bac of over .15. Lowering the threshold to .08 did absolutely nothing to address the problem of drunk driving--you'll notice that MADD now talks of "drinking and driving" rather than "drunk driving." Now, they are lobbying to have the level of criminal drunk driving lowered to .05--for a 110 lb woman, that's ONE glass of wine with dinner! Again, wasting resources on somebody that statistically is NOT the problem.

That's why MADD founder Candi Lightner has been speaking out against the organization's current leadership and describing them as being a bunch of puritanical church ladies whose real focus is on drinking--not drunk driving.

Bingo. It's kind of ironic that you brought that up, I was thinking almost exactly the same thing earlier this week when I saw a MADD commercial on TV.
