Some BCS facts for your SEC friends

I think a lot of it too comes from a perception SEC fans have that the media is bias towards Big10 teams and in particular OSU and scUM

Maybe 10 years ago, yeah I'd say the Big Ten is where the bias went, but in more recent years, it seems to have moved out west. Example, our game hasn't even happened yet, yet I've already read several arguements saying USC should be voted #1 in the AP poll. I've even seen fan polls on other websites asking "Who's #1?" Instead of looking at USC's body of work this year, people are amazed that they blew out a team they were predicted to blow out.

  • USC embarrassed Illinois, because USC is god's gift to football.
  • Georgia blew out Hawaii because Hawaii sucks.
  • LSU blew out ND last year, because everyone worth a fuck blows out ND.
  • Hell we heard a LOT of OSU lost to Florida because of the long layoff.
  • LSU blew out Miami, because Miami didn't care about playing in the Peach Bowl.
These are the kinds of things said in the media about the SEC every year. Some even try to point out that our bowl record is because of "favorable matchup" this year. But in reality, The Outback is the only Bowl game where we sent a "higher" conference seed than the opponents did (Independance bowl were both #6 seeds). Every other Bowl game, the other conference sent a higher seed than we did.**

**I'm obviously not counting the NC game where our Champ plays y'all Champ.**

I have been in Atlanta since 1974, and I will say, in the last 20 years, that it seems like every Saturday there is a big SEC game. The Big Ten has a few big Saturdays, but nothing like it is down here. Don't get me wrong though, I bleed scarlet and grey (born in Mansfield, family still in Wooster and Ashland), but it seems there are more big match-ups in the SEc then in the Big Ten, IMHO.

Its just sexier right now to see something like alabama go up against lsu, as opposed to see us vs. purdue. It might be just as good of a game, but the media puts more emphasis on the first one. Dont worry, when we win Monday's game, they'll all switch their allegiances and gang up on the sec and claim the big 10 as the worlds greatest conference (if not next year, sometime soon). Espn's existence depends on black and white analysis.

In case you hadn't noticed, our game Monday night doesn't count. USC would beat the Patriots if they played this weekend.:pissed:

Well, I don't know about that. Here is my prediction.

If OSU beats LSU, it will be because LSU had a bad game.
If LSU beats OSU, it will be because the SEC is superior. Too fast and strong for the Big Ten. At least that is what I will hear down here. They listen to the 10 second sound bites on ESPN, then they run with it.

And if not usc, if you give it enough time for reality to fall by the wayside (a la a loss to stanford), then a team that didnt even win their conference, let alone their division will sneak into the discussion. But they are playing the hottest football right now. Their coach told them to run onto the field and get an unsportsman like. So hot.

Actually, y'all can't win.
I was listening to XM Sportsnation yesterday. Don't remember which "expert" was talking, but I'll paraphrase what he said:
"The best 2 teams aren't even playing. OU should be lining up against LSU. OU may even be AP champs after the Fiesta."

Look, no one can deny it has been a crazy season. Is the winner of Monday nights game the best in the country? No way! I think that UGA and USC have a legitimate claim. But, the winner Monday night will get a trophy from All State saying they are the National Champs. After last night, West Virginnia looked pretty damn good, but so did Michigan on Tuesday. It has been a very strange season and will culminate with a much debated National Champion.

OU? As in Oklahoma? The team that lost by 20 to West Virginnia? Uh-huh.

Best part was when the host asked him "What if WVU wins convingly (by 2 TDs or so), and LSU wins a sloppy ugly game where both teams look bad? Would WVU have any claim to the AP title?"

Dude answers, "I don't see WVU staying within 2 TDS of OU, let alone winning tonight. There is no way the Mountaineers win this one convincingly, so there's no need to discuss that one."

I'm sure they'll ask him his "expert" opinion about tonight's game as well.

Please. USC lost at home to a 40-point underdog which was playing its backup QB.

WVU looked REAL good last night. They would have beat anybody LAST NIGHT. I don't know how anyone can stand up on a soap box and proclaim there team as the best in the country. I love my Buckeyes, but I am also a realist. I do not think they are the best in the country this year. Last year though, I thought they were, I just think they had a bad game against UF. Oh well, I hope Monday night is better.

Weeell, unlike the rest of the country (lsu excluded), we did what needed to be done to get into the NC game. Bottom line. Why should we be punished for that?

I understand USC lost to Stanford. But this has been a crazy season. Michigan lost to App. State, then shocked everyone with the way they handled Florida. All I am saying is, there is no clear cut champ this year, and about 3-4 schools have a legitimate gripe. Last year, I believe OSU was the best team in the country, but they lost to UF and that was it. This year, no matter who wins, the arguments will rage that their team should have had a shot at playing.
