sleeper/bust picks of the draft

... if Michigan is putting Morgan Trent on USC's best receiver at other times, what's that say about their own confidence in Leon Hall?
Though I agree that Hall is overrated and would be one of my "bust" picks, I think most opposing coaches regarded Steve Smith as USC's best receiver. Certainly Michigan regarded Hall as their best corner (which says something, IMO, about the caliber of d-backs the Wolverines had).

How many brains does one have, exactly? :roll2:

"Brains" is an idiom commonly used in America in refererence to "brainpower," not the actual number of physical brains found in one's cranium. Sorry, you must not have grown up in America...probably grew up in Michigan or some sorry backwater.

Exactly... the backup was infinitely better during the bowl game (where Ball was ineligible).

The guy who rolls his eyes uses the phrase "infinitely" in the most meaningless fashion. Yeah, I'm sure the back-up was "infinitely" better...he probably threw "infinity" TD passes.

I'm disappointed in the number of people who are certain that Leon Hall will be a bust. Other than the fact that he probably WILL be a bust, can't we have a little bit of optimism for the Bengals' secondary? They say he's a good "character" guy. I'm holding out hope.

I think Tyler Palko is a player who went undrafted and has a good shot to be heard from in the league a few years from now. He led the Big East in passing efficiency last season, ahead of Pat White and Brian Brohm, has good size, is the son of a coach, and he has some good intangibles.

For NDChief, Palko was the first opposing quarterback to ever throw for 5 TDs on Notre Dame's home field. I'm not sure how much weight should be given to that distinction, however.

Yes I know WR's can't get themselves the ball but I mean games against Troy? North Carolina? C'mon, by the stats it seems like they shut him down but you could be right, Reggie Ball could have sucked, but I mean against the crapiest teams he didnt do anything.

but all of those stats alone do not show anything. If they only throw to him twice then he can only catch it a max of two times. What you need to find is how many times he was actually thrown to, and that will tell you. Calvin Johnson was a beast in college and if he would have had a QB throwing to him he could/would have set tons of records.

I disagree. Palko has no physical tools. Long wind-up delivery, mediocre arm strength, and limited mobility. His size is nothing to brag about(6'1"-6'2"). I'm also not sure what intangibles you're talking about. I don't remember him willing Pitt to any victories or leading any great comebacks. If I'm remembering correctly, he struggled down the stretch last season when the schedule started getting tougher after getting off to a great start. Plus, it's the Big-East. Not exactly hard to put up stats in that league. His future is in the AFL, IMO.

What are you talking about? I went through his stats and I demonstrated that he dominated half of his games and ABSOLUTELY DID NOT MAKE ANY PLAYS in the other half. Say what you want, but he doesn't dominate regardless of the circumstances. That was my contention. I saw him in a couple of games last year where he was a non-factor, went back to check out the stats, and sure enough, he was a non-factor every other game.

And it's "your", not "you're". If you're calling someone's brains out, might as well get your words right. But it's all good FindlayBucks...just throwing it all out there. CJ might turn out to be an all-pro...I just doubt it.

Two months later....I've been a little busy at work and at home.

Allow me to retort...I'm well aware of the difference between "you're" and "your"....the grammar nazi's could have a field day with my typographical errors when I'm trying to slap someone around a little- must be karma. :tongue2:

I agree with your analysis of his stats- there were games when he seemingly didn't show up. Having watched some of those games I'm supremely confident that if xrayrandy were playing QB he would have probably been able to complete at least one touchdown pass to Calvin. Reggie Ball was so bad I really felt sorry for him...he had no business on the field as a college QB. Stats don't always tell the whole story.

When I said he was able to dominate from the receiver position I should have included that he was able to do that from the receiver position with Reggie Ball as his QB, which is different animal than my original statement. If Troy Smith had been his QB he would have been consistently dominant, period. (or comma, whichever).

How about that game vs. Clemson last year (Oct. 21)-- Heres his game stats
Rec- 0 Yards- 0

Game vs. Troy last year (Sept. 16)
Rec- 2 Yards- 9

Game vs. North Carolina last year (Nov. 11)
Rec- 3 Yards- 13

Game vs. Georgia last year (Nov. 25)
Rec- 2 Yards- 13

Ok, so are those are dominating stats? Troy and North Carolina are terrible teams and Calvin got absolutely shut down. Now dont get me wrong, Calvin is very talented and is going to be a good football player, but he wasn't absolutely dominant in college like you claim he is.
Try not to make shit up when it's right there on the interweb for everyone to see...I said "was able" to dominate games from the WR position, which is about 90 degrees purple from "claiming" he was absolutely dominant. Also, did you watch the North Carolina and Troy games to see how he was shut down? Let me take a wild stab in the dark and say no for you. If you did happen to watch the Troy game, WTF for? Did he get shut down by Troy and UNC or did he get shut down by the amazingly awesome aerial attack that is Reggie Ball?
Also, blah blah blah.

Here's one for the "Lies, damn lies, and statistics" file.

Guess which ACC QB had the largest number in the 'TD passes minus interceptions thrown' category last year.
