you said you were able to get the surgery. what insurance do you have and what type of hoops did you have to jump through to get it?

I stuck it on the (ex) wife's insurance at the time and her provider was United Health Care.

It was really a non-issue, it was preapproved without any problems and I just paid the co-pay.

so all i have to do is marry your ex wife?

Well she'd have to divorce the "friend" she cheated on me with first.

BTW I forgot to mention earlier that my doc had given me a referral to an Ear, Nose & Throat specialist before a decision on treatment was made.

That might be an idea for you. Having an ENT on board might help with the insurance issues.

the ent deal has already been done. in fact, they were the ones who shuttered when i said "anthem". ok, so all i have to do is get a copy of fucksticks insurance card? beating said fuckstick about the head and face would be optional, no?

C-Pap or die?

martinss01;1161189; said:
anyone else have it? like it? dislike it? do you still have it and or what have you done to get rid of/actually get something resembling sleep?

i got diagnosed with sleep apnea... 2 or 3 weeks ago i think. both my doctors think surgery is the best solution, insurance on the other hand disagrees. i could be having surgery this week. instead, i have to wait 2 full weeks just to get a cpap machine. Ive already been in 2 accidents in the last 4 months (one im not 100% sure about) where i fell asleep at the wheel. so i can't say im looking forward to the next two weeks.

so what are your stories?

oh and yes, i will be using this as an excuse for every ignorant post i have made over the last... well, whenever i joined bp :p.

I have had a C-Pap for nearly 4 years. I started after a car accident in which I should have died. Instead the good Lord told me to go back and make a difference. (a positive one) The C-Pap is a royal pain in the backside but it does allow me to sleep better. I think since I stop breathing while I sleep this is far better. If you are heavy they say losing weight ( I have trouble with this part) does help. I had to go in to have 4 sleep studies. You sleep with electrodes hooked up almost every body part. (Ok take your shots) The study gives them data to set the air pressure on the C-Pap.

Good luck and wear the dang thing.

hmmm, my two cents on the issue would be this...

I don't understand why they didn't set you up for a home delivery of a CPAP until such time as you could have the surgery... perhaps this is something you should mention to them. I'm not sure of your other factors, age, blood pressure, things along those lines... it sounds like you would be a ticking time bomb for a stroke, etc... one thing you can do is, if they aren't willing to issue a CPAP immediately I would certainly recommend taping a tennis ball to your back when it is time for sleep, this will help to deter you from sleeping on your back. This is a serious matter and you should find some sort of an immediate fix until the pissing match with your insurance company is settled.

Wouldn't losing weight help with sleep apnea problems? Serious question.

I just read that it's a vicious cycle. You get over weight, you can get apnea. Having apnea you get less sleep and gain weight.
So, why not lose as much weight as possible. As soon as possible? I know someone who did just that and is OK, now.
