Skybus Airlines - Columbus

ScriptOhio;877523; said:
Low-cost carrier Skybus has announced that it plans to offer cheap flights to Mexico and the Bahamas.

The airline - which caused a stir in the industry by offering $10 cross-country flights - has filed an application with the Department of Transportation (DOT) to fly the new routes six days a week.
Skybus hopes to begin the service on October 1, with nonstop service between its Columbus hub and Nassau, capital of the Bahamas, as well as party hotspot Cancun, in Mexico.

September 20, 2007 Update

The third is that Skybus will soon start international service. The airline has been investigating the possibility of starting services to Mexico, especially Cancun for some time. That route is still under investigation by Skybus and may be announced in the coming months, depending on whether Skybus is able to get a good deal from the airport authority in Cancun and whether demand is predicted to be strong for Cancun travel this upcoming winter. (After Wilma decimated Cancun in 2005, demand for travel to that reason has been somewhat shaky).

However, it appears that Skybus is closer to finalizing routes in the Bahamas. The airline has been discussing route possibilities with Bahamian authorities that would enable the carrier to serve both Nassau and Grand Bahama Island, each with three weekly flights. If Skybus plans to serve the Bahamas this upcoming winter travel season, this route announcement will be made in the coming weeks.

The fourth is that Skybus plans to start routes from unannounced bases in the indeterminate future, though this likely won?t come before 2008, and maybe even longer into the future. The carrier is looking at a base in the San Antonio region, as well as possibly one in Portsmouth and Burbank, both of which have been successful markets for the carrier. While it?s entirely speculation at this stage, these new bases will help Skybus connect the dots and develop a more cohesive route network.
