23rd in line
OK, so I wasn't thrilled with the tix I bought online 33B (South stands), so I tried my luck standing in line with the scalpers in hopes of improving my seats. The guy who was 21st in line, got seats in 20A, which I would have been pretty happy with. For the group of 4 of us attending the game, I was able to get seats in 18C. Now, I had 4 other tix to unload (which proved not to be very easy for this game).
At about 10am, I went out to Lane Avenue in front of the Riverwatch Towers with my 4 south stand tix in hand. In a time frame of about 45 minutes only 2 people approached me. Then a police officer approached me asking if I had a license to sell the tickets (of course not). Apparently, without a license to sell tickets, one must be on campus property. I cross Lane Avenue, and try my luck there. By this time, I am basically hoping to get my money back. I made my way to one of the entrances to the parking (tailgate area) just north of the stadium. I did get to see the band march by which was cool. At approx 11:30 I am getting desperate and to the few people who approach me, I am now asking $30 each. When they see where the seats are located they weren't interested, since there were so many other people selling tickets, in probably better locations. Finally a guy approaches me looking for just 3 tickets for himself and two buddies (most other sellers around me only had 2 to sell). He tells me he won't pay more than face value (which at this point, I'm thrilled with!). So after a stressful morning of trying to sell tickets no one wanted, I was able to make it inside the stadium to see the band enter, and meet up with my wife and another couple up in 18C. It has been 19 years since I sat in C deck, and I had forgotten how steep it was up there. The view was actually pretty good, and I must say the field looks incredible! Next time I'll think twice about buying tickets ahead of time on Hangonsloopy.com, unless they are really good seats. Live and learn I guess.
