  • I was wondering since the NCAA tournement began in 1939 which teams are historically the best. I developed a methodology which awarded points based on a couple of criteria:

    1) Making the NCAA tournement field (3 points);
    2) Making the final four (7 points);
    3) Making the championship game( 10 points) and;
    4) Winning the whole ball of wax (15 points).

    All the points are accumalative so if you win it all you would get awarded 35 points. I overlooked all sanctions (such as OSU's 1999 Final Four) and discounted the fact that the NIT. All numbers are correct up to tonight's games (assuming that UNC wins). So the top ten and each of the Big Ten schools totals.....

    1. UCLA (550 pts.) 11 championships and 18 Final Fours
    2. Kentucky (446) 7 championships and 13 Final Fours
    3. UNC (414) 5 chamionships and 18 Final Fours
    4. Duke (332) 3 Championships and 14 Final Fours
    5. Kansas (330) 3 Championships and 13 Final Fours
    6. Indiana (306) 5 Championships and 8 Final Fours
    7. Louisville (211) 2 Championships and 8 Final Fours
    8. The Ohio State University (210) 1 Championship and 10 Final Fours
    9. Michigan State (178) 2 Championships and 7 Final Fours
    10. Cinncinatti (174) 2 Championships and 6 Final Fours
    11.Syracuse (169)
    12. Georgetown (165)
    13. Arkansas (164)
    14. Oklahoma St. (161)
    15. Michigan (158)
    15. UCONN (158)
    Illinois (129)
    Iowa (97)

    You are correct. I put the wrong number into the spreadsheet. That is what you get when you analyze numbers while drinking......:biggrin:

    I will correct later tonight after I sober up....:biggrin:
