SimPLLLLLLLe Jim "6-13" Harbaugh (B1G Suspenders McKhakiPants, Cheater Cheater Booger Eater)

Here's the thing with The Harbrau™, the guy can coach. His track record shows that. However, his personality gives him a limited window at any particular stop. His manic, bat-[Mark May] crazy way of conducting himself inevitably grates on those around him, and at a point, you begin to see diminishing returns...see SF last season. There's a lot of Niners fans still smarting about him being dismissed, but not me. The guy had an incredible first three years, but by year 4, the players, his bosses, and some of his coaching staff were burnt out and essentially mailed in the 2014 season. I have little doubt that slide would have continued in 2015.

Now, scum fan will say, "but with college, you're turning rosters over every 3-4 years." Yes, that's true; however, the coaching staff around him, and the university administration will grow weary of this madman in due time. And if he's not a smashing success on the field in pretty short order, the patience will grow very thin. Not to mention, a man with the ego the size of The Harbrau™ is most assuredly still stinging from the fact that his little bro has a Super Bowl ring and he doesn't. If he has some success at scUM, the NFL will come calling in a few years, and just like he was unable to play nice with the front office in SF, he'll see those same issues with the administration at scUM as a reason to jump back to the NFL.

I said when they hired him-- he's a Bill Parcells type coach. An absolutely unbearable asshole that, while successful on the field, cannot stay in one location more than a couple of years because his personality simply won't allow it.

The one caveat I would add to the notion that he is a great coach and success is right around the corner for scUM is this;

He is walking into scUM at a unique spot in their history. Both of his primary rivals also have great coaches while additionally having stable programs with success in the living memory of those being recruited and a head start in talent. So where does scUM make up the ground? He isn't going to out-coach Dantonio or Meyer. He isn't out recruiting them.

He will likely have scUM beating Minnesota again but consistently on par or better than OSU?

Long way to go and the guy already way ahead in the race isn't slowing down.

Even the notoriously "HARBRAU!!!!" mgoblog is a little put-off...

I dunno man. I wonder if Harbaugh, a high-functioning lunatic, has points at which his function isn't so high. There is a general antipathy for press conference questions… a lot of the time. There is a general antipathy for lazy questions… some of the time. The questions Cowherd fired off were typical Cowherd: somewhat off-putting but nothing that an average person would get his dander up at, and Harbaugh is immediately in I Don't Know mode.

There are ways I think you can rescue it when he gets in that mode. Number one is talking about his players. Harbaugh loves talking about guys he has coached. But I don't think Cowherd really did anything. Harbaugh just wasn't in the mood from the drop. Steve Lorenz accurately describes it as "troll on troll crime."

Happy first-ish day of work at your new Harbaugh-wranglin' job, Zach Eisendrath! It's a very good idea to have a specific person whose only job is to wrangle Harbaugh, but I worry about the men who try to bridge the gap between beast and overman. I await the day the relentlessly upbeat Eisendrath turns his twitter feed into the SID equivalent of Nihlist Arby's.

I used to joke about how each of their coaches turned out to be a bigger asshole than the previous and speculated on how they could ever top Hoke. Michigan Man has not let me down. They dug deep and went out and achieved.

If he's going into The Game at 6-5 or 5-6, this could be the greatest Michigan Week ever.

Just saw the interview and had to come over here. That thing was a fantastic crash of beauty. I love how all in the scUM fan base is with Harbrau when he was castoff from the 49ers after leading them to a Super Bowl just a few years ago. Michigan seems enamored with coaches that failed at other locations for various reasons, reminds me of the joy they had when they "snatched" Alabama's OC away a few years ago. I'm sure Harbaugh will make some improvements, can't be hard after what the last administration put on the field, but it'll be interesting if he can't turn it around quickly and more interviews like this show the real Jim.

Erroneous. They are enamored of Michigan Man who's failed at other places. When they had a guy who hadn't failed anywhere, half were ready to run him off from the start for not being a Michigan Man.
