SimPLLLLLLLe Jim "6-13" Harbaugh (B1G Suspenders McKhakiPants, Cheater Cheater Booger Eater)

Maybe, just maybe the administration up there does actually have a slight clue what they're doing and are letting Jimbo go out and test the market, knowing full-well there is less than no demand for his services. Then, when he finishes up his Rainman Rumspringa and returns to the Administration to sign his extension, they'll yank it back from him and tell him that the previous offer no longer stands and throw a whole different set of terms in front of him.
Serious question: What would be the point of that?

(1) To hire a guy you don't want (Harbaugh), but to get him on the cheap, or

(2) To give Harbaugh such an insultingly lowball offer that he will leave in his own?

(3) You realize that your program is washed up and no coach is going to be able to do better than Hairball so at least you keep him at a better price.

So (1), essentially.

Under that scenario, you get a coach who's proven he can't win big games, can't recruit with the big boys, has done nothing to change the Michigan Man culture, and has some "personality" issues. You cut his salary, so now you've also got a coach who's slighted, unmotivated, and antagonistic toward the administration. Doesn't sound like a very good Five Year Plan to me.

Rule #1 of business: A bad employee isn't worth retaining at any price.

Sounds perfect to me!

Here's the thing - they're terrified of making another RichRod hire. So, if they're going to go in a different direction and fire him now, they damn sure better upgrade to a better coach. (Other than Urban) are there any absolute upgrade, can't miss, no-brainer, home run hire coaches available? If not, they're likely going to stick with Harbrau.

When he finally signs on the dotted line, the dfbia will proclaim it as a huge success, they talked him out of jumping to the NFL in spite of all the offers he had. Now with the uncertainty of the extension behind him, Harbrau can assemble the greatest recruiting classes of that program’s storied history. The real problem, Don Brown, has been dealt with. Now they can get back to championship football. In fact, they feel sorry for the rest of the B1G. Great things are on the horizon.

So, if I'm reading this correctly (and I like to think that I am), you've got a program that has been on a steady 5 year decline. You've got a coach who, despite all expectations to the contrary, has piloted that decline. The administration no longer wants that coach to continue, but is willing to allow it because that seems easier than to conduct yet another search, especially at this late date. The coach himself doesn't want to be there, as illustrated by the continued cold-calling NFL programs looking for interviews, with seemingly no takers - not even the Lions.

Yeah, this extension seems like a pretty great thing for pretty much everyone - except ttun, Harbaugh and the dfbia. For them, it seems like it could be a monumental disaster.
It's worse than that. It seems to me, the whole reason they haven't moved on is that they just don't want to fire a "_ichigan _an."

Does anybody really think if that wasn't Jim Harbaugh, _ichigan _an, that he wouldn't already be out on his ass?

Everything said about the abject dysfunction of that program is being proven 100% factual. They don't want to "fire" a _ichigan _an because he deserves better.

Joe Smith would have been fired the day after they announced they were too chicken sick to travel to columbus. They need an ad from outside the bo circle if they ever want to start cleaning up the mess. Instead they keep picking *ichigan *en because of an off hand remark by bo explaining why he fired a coach who was planning on bolting for a "better" job after the season. I hope they never change.

So on brand. Just like their recuits. They deserve everything good for the simple fact that they went to Michigan.

Uh, sorry, but I'm going to have to encourage you to get back on the thread topic. We are talking about one of the best employees that they ever had in that position. "A Michigan Man." He is single-handedly changing the perception of TSUN football and has Ohio State quaking in their boots. Just a few more years, call it 5 or call it 10, and you'll see. Then, you'll wish you locked him up.

Rule #1: Jim Harbaugh deserves a lifetime contract. Period.:pimp:

That would be hilarious, for sure. But you don't teabag the coach with whom you're signing a long term extension and then expect him to give you 100% effort a day later.

An unshackled Jim Harbaugh
Submitted by b618 on January 6th, 2021 at 4:34 AM

Interesting quote in a Sports Illustrated interview, from Jeffrey Persi's dad:

"There’s a bunch of armchair quarterbacks out there," he said. "I believe Harbaugh has what’s needed if he can break out of the handcuffs that bind him. You know his past coaching styles. Do these last two years really look like they’re his choice? We’ll choose an unshackled Harbaugh to lead this team and get our boy ready for life."

One of the things that hit me the hardest when my son was born is how nobody ever really tells you how to be a parent. When you're a kid, you're not watching what your parents did for future reference. Then one day, boom...you're in charge of a person. Almost every day I struggle with wondering "am I doing this right? Am I being a good dad?"

But at least I'm a way better parent than this fucking jabroni. Holy crap.

Handcuffs? I think it's more like he should be in a straight jacket.

scUM definitely screwed up this situation. They should've fired Harbaugh as soon as they quit on the season.

They don't want to "fire" a _ichigan _an because he deserves better.
No one screwed over a head coach worse than Ohio State did with Earle Bruce, who was fired days before the 1987 Michigan game by the university president at the insistence of a wealthy donor and against the wishes of the athletic director, this despite Bruce having an overall .752 winning percentage, a 5-3 record in bowl games, a 4-4 record against Michigan, winning four Big Ten titles, and most importantly, being a Woody Hayes player and protégé. To make matters worse, Ohio State allowed Bruce to coach the Michigan game, which he in true Gipper fashion ended up winning. Bruce filed a lawsuit against Ohio State and university president Ed Jennings, accusing them of breach of contract, libel, and slander. It was a real mess, much worse than what is going on up in Ann Arbor right now. Here's a link to an article, in case you're interested in all the gory details: LINK

No one was a bigger "Buckeye Man" than Earle Bruce, and Ohio State still fired him in just about the worst way possible. Even still, Earle eventually came back into the fold and remained a loyal and avid Buckeye - and a fan favorite - for the rest of his life.

If Michigan is afraid to fire Harbaugh because he deserves better, then that speaks volumes about the fragility and emptiness of the Michigan Man culture.
