That must have been bitterly disappointing for them. Also, the co-champ didn’t get to go to a bowl if the Big Ten ADs voted to send tOSU to the Rose Bowl.

Just occurred to me. If UM is negotiating a contract with a smaller buyout and said buyout is less than the buyout on the remaining year of his existing contract they could get him to sign, blow the ink dry, and fire him on the spot.
I remember reading that he doesn't even have an agent. I guess he may now, but Simple Jim strikes me as the kind of guy that might think he "don't need no agent."If he/his agent is dumb enough to let that happen...oh god, I'm not quite sure what's better.
As for their "gold standard". Bo coached Michigan 12 years before he won his first bowl game*. He was 0-6 in bowl games during the "Ten Year War". He won only five bowl games total during his 21 years at Michigan including only two Rose Bowls. He was 5-12 overall in bowls (a .416 winning percentage).
Good catch. 5 wins, 12 losses, .294 is correct.Either your math is wrong or you're writing his record weirdly. Did he have 5 wins and 12 losses, or 5 wins in 12 tries?
If it's the former, he had 17 tries. 5/17 = 0.294 win percentage.
If it's the latter, you'd be correct. But I've never seen it written 5-12.
Michigan would never do that to a favorite son. They’re bending over backwards to give him every possible chance and they won’t let him leave thinking he was treated unfairly in any way.Just occurred to me. Clearly I was using the "Oxford dash" which is read "of", as in "he was 5 of 12".Either your math is wrong or you're writing his record weirdly. Did he have 5 wins and 12 losses, or 5 wins in 12 tries?

We should of known.Clearly I was using the "Oxford dash" which is read "of", as in "he was 5 of 12".
Sometimes the ignorance on this board is astonishing.
And to be fair, the Rose Bowl rules regarding refs and home jerseys were changed through the efforts of Bo and Woody. The Pac 10 refs served up a good deal of home cookin' to the detriment of Ohio State and Michigan. Nothin' says winning bowl games and NC's quite like being able stay close to home.It is really sad to hear them talk about their search for the next coach. They have been looking for a new "Bo" since 1990. He is their gold standard.
Now don't get me wrong. I was a student when Woody coached. I love me some Woody (especially now that we have lifted the "curse of Charlie Baumann").
But since Woody left we have had three coaches who are arguably as good or better. And two other coaches who are in the Hall of Fame.
Michigan has had ... Loyd Carr.

It is sooooo fucking good to be a Buckeye.
(* To be fair in four of those years he did not go to a bowl game because only the Big Ten champ had that option.)
And then hire some Mensa guy who was just given a shit ton of money to leave Austin. Great QB whisperer and wicked offense genius. Probably doesn't need 4M a year to get you a 10 - 4 season.Just occurred to me.
