SimPLLLLLLLe Jim "6-13" Harbaugh (B1G Suspenders McKhakiPants, Cheater Cheater Booger Eater)

"Provisions to hire top assistant" Are they significantly underpaying their assistants? I thought Dr Blitz was one of the more highly compensated assistants in the B1G? I don't know what they're paying Gattis, but I seem to remember them opening their wallet for Pep. Regardless, he presumably will be on a very short leash and doesn't seem to have a very sterling rep across the coaching community. What top assistant is going to want to work for Rainman on the perpetual hot seat?

Both Brown and Gattis are in the "million dollar club":

Re-worked contract details of Michigan assistants revealed

Entire article: https://247sports.com/college/michi...inner-josh-gattis-contract-details-133409267/

1st point...Article is a year old; however, I seriously doubt anybody got a raise this year.

2nd point...Hell, they are all grossly overpaid based on their team's performance.

My guess is that Jim-Bo wants to play The Game on Saturday, get blown out by 40+, force scUM to fire him, take his buyout, then take an NFL job for $8 million a year.

Generally coaches want to coach and players want to play; it really wouldn't surprise me if Harbaugh did want to play the game. He has to know his fate at scUM won't depend on this one game, it will be based on his 6 year record at scUM, etc. He's been blown out by Ohio State the last 2 years, and one more blowout (especially this year) isn't going to change much. He's playing with "house money" anyway, since no one expects him to beat Ohio State. Bigger upset miracles have happened in sports before, i.e. "Miracle On Ice", Buster Douglas, and Appalachian State, etc. It's the others at the university, the (big money) boosters, and the fans that don't want another embarrassing loss to Ohio State that will dictate the game will be cancelled.

It’s unclear exactly what Harbaugh will be due in 2021 given the complexities of the contract, but most estimates suggest it’s around $10 million. So if the Wolverines stick it out for the 2020 campaign (likely given the shortened season due to COVID) they’ll be looking at a buyout around that number.

Just sayin': If he actually has a legitimate NFL offer for a multi year $8M (per year) head coaching job, that sounds like "a plan"......

I’d agree a general aversion to working for an insufferable and largely unsuccessful prick is a bigger hurdle for them than salaries.

Cinci ... please, please be quiet. No need to speak that shit into existence. Let their fanbase prattle on about coaches they'll never land ... and keep quiet about the rest.
I hear you, but I think his heart is in Bloomington, kind of like Fitz at Northwestern. Further, I don’t think Allen or Fitz’ schtick works at any other setting than the one they’re in. There’s something to be said about 2 mill a year for as long as you want the job compared to 10mill and alums who demand winning at Urban levels.

Coaching profession isn’t exactly one where a coach signs an extension for *less* money. That’s embarrassing for all parties.

Even worse, Jimbo has to suck it up and accept it to keep his dream of being the team’s savior (knowing he doesn’t have it in him) or he realizes he was not-so-kindly asked to leave based on that offer and he’s not wanted “home” anymore.

For as much a fool I consider Bacon to be, do respect the “rather be second and right” MO. He’s apparently not without some redeeming qualities.

Redeeming qualities? I see it more like Baconator has no real sources nor any clue what’s gonna happen ........ saying he’ll be second just means he’ll report what’s gonna happen right after it’s done and everybody knows.

I think they'd spin it as him taking less due to covid hurting athletic dept income. They're probably arrogant enough to believe 2021 will be revenge of the revenge tour and they can then rework the extension again.

Rival failures aside, the guy has given them 3 ten win seasons in 6 years.

If they run off another coach, and I'm pretty sure that's what this contract offer is meant to do, would any worthwhile replacement be willing to take the job?

I don't think you can consider it running off a coach when it's been 6 years and his program is trending down big time

Smith, Day and Holtman are all taking voluntary cuts. That's more face saving than being asked to take a cut but these are strange times.

The choice Harbaugh has is to say "I came here to do a job" or "I came here for the money". Is he willing to admit he failed and walk away.

Lose-lose IMO.
