SimPLLLLLLLe Jim "6-13" Harbaugh (B1G Suspenders McKhakiPants, Cheater Cheater Booger Eater)

Is he underrated anymore? No, because a large majority of people now see that he's a turkey. Was he overrated when he was hired? Absolutely. The narrative was that he was a highly successful NFL coach that was coming home to his alma mater and would inevitably take any recruit he wanted, dominate the B1G with his modern version of "man ball", dominate his rivals and win a whole bunch of championships. Six years in, his recruiting has been a disaster, his offense is (and has been) largely terrible, his rivals are kicking his ass on the field and the recruiting trail and hasn't won a single championship.

I'm a 49ers fan, so I'm very familiar with his coaching. He was instantly successful in SF, but what people ignored was that he inherited a very talented roster (especially on defense) that had suffered through years of really bad coaching. To his credit, he whipped them into shape quickly, but there were diminishing returns as that talent aged, grew weary of his manic style and the league caught up to the pistol offense he let Greg Roman installed with Colin Kaepernick. As that happened, he and Roman tried to make Kaepernick a more classic pocket passer charged with sitting back and reading a defense...something he was, um, not good at. He struggled with his rival (Seattle) throughout his tenure and was plagued by some curious coaching decisions in big games; prime example calling 3 straight passes on the goal line in a position to win the SuperBowl when he had one of the best OLs and RBs in game. The clock management gaffes aren't new to his time in Ann arbor, either.

The myth of Jim Harbaugh "genius coach/qb whisperer" was built on landing a generational talent while he was at Stanford. What QB success has he had other than that?

Alex Smith - turned him into a solid game manager
Kaepernick - showed zero growth as a passer and became increasingly ineffective as he could rely less and less on his freak athleticism for the position.
Jake Rudock - solid game manager.
Wilton Speight - Game manager who regressed the more he played.
John O'Korn - "No, John, NO!!!"
Brandon Peters - His best QB recruit (#61 in 247 composite) who was terrible in his 1/2 season as a starter
Shea Patterson - Top-5 overall recruit who transferred in with a TON of hype and never showed any significant improvement in his 2 years as a starter there.
Joe Milton - In his 3rd year in the program and looks like a true freshman on the field.

He's a joke and everything positive about him is an easily discounted myth.

Not to diminish the staggering wrongness of M squared but he may actually have meant "haloscan":

Haloscan acquisition[edit]
Haloscan was one of the first third-party blog comment hosting services, established in 2002.[3] Haloscan was acquired by JS-Kit in 2008. In 2009, Echo had requested users of Haloscan product to upgrade to its core service.[4]

In 2012, it was announced that Echo would discontinue their comment hosting-exclusive services in favor of social media applications (i.e., USA Network's "Character Chatter" website feature, among other feedback features), with support for all remaining JS-Kit, Haloscan and Echo comment modules being withdrawn.

Truth is stranger than fiction.

They have too much pride to consider anyone associated with the Buckeyes despite thier only successs* since we put a man on the moon being from Bo and his coaching tree.

* - I use the word success here lightly. They had one decade that was essentially a draw, 0.5 national championships and the good fortune to go against John Cooper.
Funny, the man they adore, Bo Schembechler, was coached by Wayne Woodrow Hayes at Miami, not Michigan, coached under Wayne Woodrow Hayes, not Bennie Oosterbaan or Bump Elliott, at Ohio State, not Michigan, and was brought to Michigan from Miami. And yet, he's the epitome of a "Michigan Man."

Rudock was a gift from Iowa - given that he had only spring ball and a season with the "Whisperer," he was a pretty decent college QB, but clearly more a product of Ferentz.

I thought Patterson was a better than average college QB by his senior year - but he wasn't in the same class as Haskins and Fields, the QBs he had to beat.

Don't know what to make of Joe Milton. They brag about his arm strength, but unlike 12 Gauge, who could actually put the ball on the target, Milton needs a full choke on his 12 gauge. They brag about his running ability, yet he was consistently run down by Michigan State and IU defenders. Maybe, like his predecessor, Gardner, he's miscast as a QB and could prove to be more valuable as wideout.

Probably one of the many articles coming out these days on the subject of possible replacements for Harbaugh...

If Not Jim Harbaugh, Then Who?

...some here will remember #5 on the list...

Alex Grinch - Oklahoma, DC ($1.4 mil)
Why it makes sense: Grinch has become known as one of the top assistant coaches likely to land a power five head coaching position. He inherited a defense ranked 101st in the nation in 2018 and propelled them to 64th in the nation just a year later. In 2020, Grinch appears to be doing it again as his defensive unit currently ranked 36th in the nation. Grinch has experience with winning programs, most notably with Ohio State in 2018. The familiarity with the Big Ten and the rivalry between Michigan and Ohio State makes Grinch an intriguing candidate when/if the Wolverines once again find themselves in the hunt for a new savior in Ann Arbor.

I don't think I'd mind that.

Michigan football and Jim Harbaugh face a catch-22 with his future

They also worry about the Catch-22 Michigan has created for itself with Harbaugh’s contract situation.

After all, how can the Wolverines justify giving Harbaugh an extension during a year when his team has underperformed and the athletic department is facing a budget crisis? But on the other hand, how can they allow him to reach the final year of his deal and potentially bankrupt Michigan’s future by not securing the longevity of their coach for the sake of recruiting?

It’s a serious dilemma that could resolve itself if an NFL team gives Harbaugh another opportunity this winter.

But the question now becomes whether the league that once coveted Harbaugh still wants him enough to create the pathway for that exit strategy he so vehemently opposed a year ago.

The irony is palpable.

Fact or fiction: Gauging Jim Harbaugh's hot seat at Michigan

This week, Yahoo Sports college football insider Pete Thamel touched on several hot-seat candidates, including Harbaugh.

"We’ve spent a lot of time on Michigan, as Harbaugh’s coaching situation is the most compelling in college football. And maybe all of football," Thamel writes. "His NFL market dries up a bit more with each loss, but Michigan still doesn’t have the institutional desire to fire him. They’d owe him $6.3 million in a buyout to fire him, but that still seems unlikely.

"Harbaugh returning for a final season or some sort of mutually negotiated parting are still the most likely options. But if Michigan keeps playing this way, the pressure will only mount."

Anybody think Harbaugh could be the Jets head coach next season?

Heupel and Elliott are the names on there that concern me the most.

I find it interesting that both Clemson coordinators (Elliott and Venables) are on the list.

Is Grinch the new Kiffin?

I think Grinch has to of already been a head coach at multiple schools to be the new Kiffin. Now if Herman gets fired at Texas he would have a chance.....
