Damn you Jim Harbaugh. Twenty years of hate down the frickin' drain! Now back to the article...
So, on their entire team they have exactly 7 players with a declared legitimate major: economics(2), psychology, English, American Culture (I'm going to assume that's a legitimate multi-disciplinary liberal arts major) and one in business, one in engineering.
Ha! No wonder Mr. Krenzel didn't stay home for college.

I'd hit it!
Well one thing is for sure with all that light course work the team is taking, there is no reason they shouldn't win the National Championship this year especially if they don't have to worry about academics. Hell if they don't have a major they probably don't even show up to class.

Krenzel: "OK?"
Carr's stand-in: "Hey, that's your first sentence without a quarter word in it. Hey, where are you going?"

I'm not defending Michigan or Hart. At all.
Still, the real question is when did Jim Harbaugh get so damned important that everything he says is national news? What about his declaration that USC is the best college team ever? Harbaugh seems like he's losing his grasp on what his place is here: he's a Stanford football coach. He's not part of the AP, he's not on the BCS committee, and he's definitely not part of the scUM admissions or academics department, so who gives a shit what Jim Harbaugh thinks other than about 100 kids who have a pine tree for a mascot?

Saw the Cal - Stanford game in 75. The Stanford band was led down the field by the Drum Major and two guys in foam rubber costumes, one looked like a ten foot dildo, but turned out to be the Hoover Tower and the other was a Christmas tree... the Palo Alto.

After they voted to drop the name Indians and switch to The Cardinal (as in the color, not the bird) they debated for years what the mascot should be since they would also have to disassociate themselves from the previous mascot, Prince Lightfoot. 35 years later, they still haven't come up with one.

The problem with this article is that the junior class is really sophomores academically. They have until the start of their true junior year to declare a major, which they have prior to fall camp. Forde should of asked UM this instead of drawing his own conclusions which dampens the rest of the article as a result. Pity because it raises a valid question about school and sports, however once again ESPN fails to do proper research on a important matter.

Michigan tries to differentiate itself from other competing schools when recruiting players by citing the value of a Michigan degree vs other colleges.
By doing this they are opening themselves up to examination on whether it is true or not. Thats completely fair and warranted!
Why Harbaugh brought this up is not the question, the question is are his statements true???
BTW,,,, I believe the ESPN writer stated his calls to Michigan were not answered.

Drew Sharp gets it exactly right. It's not that they funnel dumb players into easy majors. We do the same g-d thing and always have. As does Wisconsin and UCLA and USC and so on. It's the huge percentage of athletes to whom they're doing it combined with the blatant hypocrisy of constantly preaching that they set a higher standard when, in fact, they may be one of the worst examples.
I would, however, like to know how we compare in this regard. I hope that we're better, but since the player bios on the official site don't list the players' majors, it's rather hard to tell. Hopefully some enterprising reporter won't sit down with our press guide and find out that we're actually no better.
