One thing that I will add is that I think tsun absolutely could do better than him. I'm having a hard time believing they could do worse given the resources he has up there and the five years of results that we've seen. It's just that the tsun are scared to pull the trigger and make a move. Plus, they can fuel their smugness by telling the world they won't fire SimpLLLLLe Jim because he's "doing things the right way" with his "Ivy League SAT players."
It's interesting how much different his run would look had they stopped JT on the 4th down play. scUM goes to the B1G title game. If they beat Wiscy they'd be in the CFP.
Even if they got whupped in the semifinals that would be 3 accomplishments that he doesn't have now - beat tOSU, win B1G, CFP berth. A "game of inches" indeed.
Wouldn't be surprised if they offered him less money with a lot of performance incentives. We'll see how that goes.
Yep. I said somewhere in these threads that that fourth down conversion is the exact point the harbrau era failed to reach escape velocity. Prior to that game, he was 20-4 up there and in a position to go to Indy and possibly the CFB playoff in his second year. Since then, he's 27-14 with a string of embarrassing big game failures (including 0-4 in Bowls) a pair of consecutive historic blowouts to tOSU.It's interesting how much different his run would look had they stopped JT on the 4th down play. scUM goes to the B1G title game. I don't spend much time in the recruiting forums unless OSU and UGA have a mutual interest in a kid, so I could be wrong in my summary, but JH kinda sucks as a recruiter.
Remember when he was hired, he was gonna host all these camps at IMG academy, downtown Atlanta, Birmingham, Texas....etc
Was going to totally re-invent the way recruiting was done in the Midwest and beatdown the doorstep of southern prospects.
Four years later, does anyone think he's done that?
Get fucked Coach
Hell, we all talked about it at the time it happened.
We all knew he would never get a better shot than he had with all of Hoke's SR talent. The recruiting was not, and has never been, there to indicate his own group of recruits 4-5 years later would be any better than what he had in '16.
To make it even more bitterly disappointing, he got to take that shot against one of the youngest OSU teams he will ever get the chance to face...and he failed.
The rest has been predictable. He doesn't have the raw level of talent, roster construction or player development to hang with OSU.
And second or third year is usually when the great coaches have their breakout season. Mack Brown at Texas is the only one that I can remember hanging around for 5 or 6 years and then having it all come together, and he needed Radio to do it--a once in a lifetime talent that they literally stopped coaching and let go full sandlot his senior year.
checking the tsun roster, I don't see any Radio Young level talent

His recruiting has been a huge reason they're stuck in the second-tier of their DIVISION. IIRC, tOSU is outpacing them 6-1 in top-100 recruits over the last 3-4 years. Another huge reason is his assistant coaching hires. He's not bringing in dynamic recruiters, or at least he's not retaining them. He's recruiting and coaching at a level that will get you to 9-4/10-3 most years, while getting hammered by elite teams. That's not what they're paying for. He's, I believe, the 3rd highest paid coach in CFB. I think it's kind of hard to look at him objectively and say he's one of the top-15 coaches in the sport.
Not a single one of these mongoloids signed up for what they are now saying are "realistic" expectations. He was going to be a recruiting machine that would stockpile elite talent, especially at quarterback. SimpLLLLLe Jim was going to beat Ohio State, drive Urban to have another "heart attack" and win B1G and National championships. Every single one of them believed with chimp-like certainty that this was their inevitable destiny.
