SimPLLLLLLLe Jim "6-13" Harbaugh (B1G Suspenders McKhakiPants, Cheater Cheater Booger Eater)

MICHIGAN WOLVERINES 11hAdam Rittenberg

Michigan's Year One miracle: How did Jim Harbaugh do it?

Maybe Michigan fell off the national radar for a little while, but thanks to Jim Harbaugh, a stylin', profilin', tweetin', rule-loophole-exploitin' son of a gun, the Wolverines are back. Wooo!

"...Things have changed rapidly. Jim Harbaugh has accomplished a lot in his first 447 days as the Wolverines' coach. Perhaps his most significant achievement is nationalizing Michigan football again...
...Hoke also signed the nation's No. 6 recruiting class in 2013, but his approach was more regional. The 2013 class had 17 prospects from Ohio or Michigan, and only four from outside the Big Ten footprint, including top-rated recruit Derrick Green (Virginia). Hoke signed only two California recruits and three Florida recruits in four classes...
...Michigan fans accept Harbaugh and his quirks because of his roots: played for Bo, father coached with Bo, grew up in Ann Arbor. Harbaugh's chutzpah isn't new to them. They remember his guarantee before the Ohio State game in 1986, when he said Michigan would beat the Buckeyes and play in the Rose Bowl...."

If Rittenberg thinks Harbaugh turned a "miracle," I wonder what he thought Hoke did in his first year at Michigan, which exceeded Harbaugh's both in the W/L column and on the recruiting trail...

Hoke took over a team that was progressing each year, Jim took over a team that was in a downward spiral. I don't think it was a miracle. I do think he doubled the amount of wins Hoke would have got out of that team. Just think Sugar would have been the QB.

They went full fetal in the only game that matters.

42 was the most points Michigan gave up all season.
13 was the fewest points Michigan scored all season.

Basically, it was their worst game on both sides of the ball all season.

If you want a "miracle", I think you ought not do that against your biggest rival.

10-3; won their bowl game, outperformed any and all expectations. He had a good first season, there's no questioning that.

What will his record have to be this year in order to live up to the hype?

Road trips to Sparty, Iowa and tOSU are all gonna be tough. Plus they get Wisky and the Pedsters at home in back to back weeks.... If they go 8-4 (which I believe is pretty realistic), will they start to turn on him?

Hoke inherited a roster full of slot dots and non B1G quality players and did more with it his first year than Harbaugh did with guys who at least physically fit his style of play.

I guess it depends on what "the hype" is. If we're continuing to diminish the word "miracle" by using it with regards to what Harbaugh did with Michigan last year, then I'd say that to "live up to the hype", he'd have to lose no more than 2 games.

I think my objection is just with the word "miracle". He had a "good" season. Not "great". "Good." 11-2 might have been "great". "Miracle" shouldn't get uttered until he's won a national championship with a freshman quarterback, or a quarterback who sat the bench all year until the last 13 quarters of the season, while shutting down the guy who once had the single game rushing record, outscoring the favorite to win the national championship 36-14 in the last ~40 minutes of the game, and then holding the Heisman-winning quarterback to 20 points. Miracle.

Hoke also inherited an OL that could block. And had a team that had leadership. One of the biggest problems with the team JH took over was the divided locker room and no leaders. There was a reason they didn't pick captains in 2014. Harbaugh took over a mess. Mike Martin and Denard were huge assets for Hoke.
