Signing Day '08 Discussion

I disagree... We came in expecting Jenkins to land elsewhere... We had a decent shot at Harris, but most (that weren't sticking their necks out) felt it would be tough for him to spurn the home team...

And Pryor not announcing was in no way "tough" for us...

This class is great without any one being added and tough is not the right word. The best day was when our Seniors to be stayed. I think it says a lot that it did not scare any recruits away. I am pretty sure that most coaches are not feeling sorry for JT not getting two more studs and there still could be icing on the recruiting cake. I am not happy with that process but another time and day to discuss.

I agree. I just think TP's delay hurts Michigan more than anybody, assuming they don't land him, which I doubt very seriously they will. (I don't think State Penn will either).

My reasoning is that by the end of the day, all of the eligible potential spread helmers will probably be signed and off the board w/RR waiting suspended by Pryor:

Darron Thomas / Oregon
Starr Jackson / Alabama
BJ Daniels / Jackson State

Who is going to run that offense? Cone, Threet, Mondol? Oh, well, just a thought.

No it won't. Media members know that JT cannot comment on a recruit until after that recruit has signed a letter of intent, therefore the reporters won't even bother asking about Pryor (hopefully).

Justin Feagin (yippee) is signed, and lord knows what will happen with Domonick Britt.

Well, I'm not trying to reign doom and gloom at all, and I still like our chances with Pryor, but if someone would have told me last night at 9pm that we would have ended the day with Johnson, Harris in Miami, Jenkins in Morgantown, and Pryor not only uncommitted but with trips now scheduled to Oregon and PSU, I wouldn't have believed it. Either way, I agree that this is a great class, but it had the potential to be a class for the ages. Hopefully we still land Pryor, but I think most of us were not expecting what's transpired over the past 16 hours with this kid, and I think enough of us thought we had a pretty good shot at landing either Jenkins or Harris. That said, great class w/ or w/out Pryor. If we don't get him and given the loss of Devoe, we'll be recruiting the skill positions big time next year.

My guess is the first reporter does ask something about Pryor but JT tells them just what you said and that shuts down the questions.

I'm not sure that JT would even be able to say what I just did. My guess is that the SID would say something or they would just say "Next question".

I've heard him (and other coaches) say similar things but it doesn't matter... we're on the same page. :)

Rumor is Cal...as posted by jwinslow in the scUM recruiting thread. That'd make me happy. I don't like the thought of facing McGuffie in DickRod's offense.
I'll be very curious to hear what brought this on... aTm I can understand.

It does not seem to be competition, as Cal has a talented frosh returning in Best and landed Deboskie today, a blue-chip RB that Michigan wanted (along with Bama & FL).
