Signing Day '08 Discussion

Losing Perry not the worst thing that could have happened. RR makes up for it by snagging Barnum away from Florida.
Perry is a HUGE position of need, not to mention stopping the USC leak. Perry is also a better prospect than Barnum.

TP just announced on ESPNU that he will NOT commit today

Not trying to make this Pryor specific, just want to use it as a prime example of how, we as a sports obsessed culture, have put way, way too much emphasis on this whole spectacle.

17 year old kids holding press conferences that are televised nationally to announce that they are NOT committing yet. It's a level of absurdity that would make Kafka's head spin.

That being said, congrats to the future Buckeyes who signed today. Do well on the field, stay out of trouble and take advantage of what you've been offered and graduate!

is Mcguffie looking at aTm possibly? did aTm lose anybody last minute other than Kapron Lewis-Moore?

Rumor is Cal...as posted by jwinslow in the scUM recruiting thread. That'd make me happy. I don't like the thought of facing McGuffie in DickRod's offense.

For this particular class, yes, there being nobody listed strictly as a DE. But Jamison and Graham return and will anchor the ends nicely. When it comes to need on the team vs. the class, OL is biggest and we need to hoard as many as possible.

aTm has been the elephant in the room for awhile... downplayed as visiting with friends and appeasing mom (who wanted him at aTm, IIRC).

Did Michael Shaw shake this up? Has he been more iffy than admitted to this point?

Where is the depth moving forward at DE?

Does Barnum play OT, where UM is razor thin? I haven't watched any film, I thought he was an interior guy (where UM has more guys). If UM can land/develop a premiere OT or two, I think they'd be all set inside (where Schilling belongs, imo).

Barnum plays inside. At OT we do have Dann O'Neill coming in, which depending on what source you prefer may actually be the best recruit in the class. Still, at OG I'm not real sold on the projected two-deep of Ortman, Zirbel, McAvoy, and Moosman. About the only part of the line I feel comfortable with is Justin Boren at C, so when it comes to recruiting, if they have "OL" next to their name and can fog a mirror, it's a plus for U-M.

Edit....oh yeah, DE - the depth, yes, is lacking, but the starters are far more solid than on OL. Perry's a loss for sure, but one thing's a plus: He didn't pick MSU. I'm more concerned about JB Fitzgerald, who plays LB where the need is even greater.
