Todays SI.com cover page is loaded with Big Ten references. SI.COM

Here are the Top 10 players (accroding to SI):
1. Drew Tate
2. Teddy Ginn
3. Laurence Maroney
4. AJ Hawk
5. Steve Breaston
6. Michael Hart
7. Chad Greenway
8. Greg Eslinger (Minnesota)
9. Chad Henne
10. Ray Edwards (Purdue)

Stewart Mandel on the finishes:
1. OSU 7-1 (10-1) : If the running game improves as expected, this team will have it all. Ginn is one of the game's most dangerous weapons and Santonio Holmes is an elite receiver. The defensive line is not without questions, but A.J. Hawk anchors a premier linebacking corps and CB Ashton Youboty leads a deep secondary. Perhaps the biggest question is whether kicker Josh Huston can live up to Mike Nugent's considerable legacy.
2. Iowa 6-2 (9-2)
3. Michigan 6-2 (9-2)
4. Purdue 6-2 (8-3)
5. Penn St. 4-4 (7-4)
6. Minnesota 4-4 (7-4)
7. MSU 4-4 (6-5)
8. Wisky 3-5 (6-6)
9. Northwestern 3-5 (5-6)
10. Illinois 1-7 (3-8)
11. Indiana 0-8 (2-9)

Toughest schedule - Iowa? Only if he means the conference schedule only.

Let's compare Iowa's to tOSU's.

In conference. Iowa misses Penn State and MSU, 2 teams in the middle.
In conference, tOSU misses Purdue (4th best team) and Wisconsin, a middle team. Iowa's may be a little tougher.

Non-conference, Iowa plays @Iowa St., and hosts Ball St. and Northern Iowa, which I don't believe has Kurt Warner anymore. That doesn't compare to Miami Univ., Texas, and S.D. St.

Thousands of arguments here.......Ginn #2???? Please. Easily #1.

Great Points by BB73. Iowa......toughest schedule? NO WAY.

One thing I do like to see......

Team on the decline: Wisconsin

I hope thats a permanent decline.

I don't want to see any Big 10 team on the decline. I want them all ranked in the top 10 -- makes for better competition.
Agreed, I don't want to start getting hammered for an easy SOS, I'd rather have a tough one like this year and see our team have to give it all every game

and yes he had to be referring to big 10 schedule

More on the "Team on The Rise" from SI (Penn State)

They also have these interesting tidbits on that "Team on the rise" Penn State (off course when you are near the bottom, everything looks to be better next year).
Joe Paterno Ready to revive Penn State
Good analysis of the defense, they are putting a lot of their hopes on both sides of the ball into the hands of the two most highly sought recruits to go to Penn State in years.
And they also have a piece on the Continuing Saga of Unhappy Valley's Next Coach -- Who's Next? Kind of hedging their bets there, I think.

There is this priceless soon to be farked picture of JoePa, looking just a little lost.

t1_paterno_si.jpg

And these quotes from Joe himself:

On staying and going and his age --
Of all the factors that go into such a decision, age hardly seems to be one of them. As anyone who's been around him can attest, Paterno still has the energy of someone 25 years younger. "If they didn't have a calendar," said Paterno, "I wouldn't know how old I am." Says Pouslusny: "He has the most energy I've seen since I've been here. Especially in the spring, he was getting down and working with the players. He's really excited about this season, he feels this is the team that can turn things around."
On the critics in the press:
"If [legendary Texas coach] Darrell Royal called me up and said, 'Joe, you're doing a lousy job,' that would bother me. If [a writer] calls me up and says that, I'd say 'What the heck are you talking about?'"

They may not be saying it to his face, but privately, opposing coaches and scouts have been scoffing for years about the Nittany Lions' program -- saying Penn State has done a poor job of evaluating talent, its players aren't as well conditioned as its competitors and its offense is painfully predictable.

I don't remember it....but thanks minny! :groove:
it was the PSU equivilant of scUMLite in '98 for us...
except for the fact that Minny had a 4th and forever, and the ball was tipped, and fell into a different Minny player's hand, and Minny went on to score the game winning TD. Basically, it was the Gopher version of the Immaculate Reception, and it was a HUUUUUUGE upset... the Nits went in the tank for the rest of the year... and the year after that... and the year after that... and the year after that... then they had a decent year... then they went in the tank again...
