Should football players be held to a higher standard?

Well said. One thing that hasn't been pointed out is that I'm sure Alex feels incredibly sorry for what he did. You hypocrites who are bashing him and judging him need to keep that in mind.

I have no interest in bashing the guy, but how are people hypocrites for pointing out he made a stupid move, especially in light of past incidents in the program of late?

It will all work out.
My goodness! I'm thinking of what this oline will become.
Boone and Barton at tackle. Datish, arguably our best olineman at guard or center. Downing, Mitchell, Cordle,Rehring, etc.
This oline with these skill players! Are you kidding me! :tongue2:
We cannot go conservative with this level of talent. :(

Because I'd wager that at least 99% of those calling Boone and his actions stupid have done the exact same thing at one time or another.

...and I'd wager that 99% of those saying that did not have full-ride scholarships to play football at The Ohio State University.

Anyone who drinks and drives is a bonehead, but a scholarship athlete representing his school and program has even more at stake than a DUI.

I'd wager that many of these same folks would now also classify their own behavior as stupid. That sounds like admitting a mistake, rather than hypocrisy.

Hypocrisy entails condemning another's actions while committing the same actions onself. Go look it up. That's exactly what's being done here. And for what it's worth (not that I think it's relevant, but I'll respond b/c it was a shortsighted attempt to rebut my argument), those people are not somehow made less hypocritical simply b/c Alex plays for the Buckeyes and they do not.

And what if I didn't drink and drive? Can I call it stupid then?

That is assuming that said person continues to commit the act. If someone had a DUI at one point an calls him/herself stupid, they are permitted to say Boone did something stupid without being hypocritical.

No, hypocrisy is condemning others for doing something while saying it's OK for you to do it. Conversely, if you condemn an action that you have also done while also condemning yourself (as I did in my post), then it's not hypocrisy. I think you need to look it up yourself before your go around on your high horse chastising people.

Back to Boone, he'll pay for his actions all through spring practice and summer practice.

Comical. How is it not relevant? Decision-making for a normal student and a scholarship athlete are not the same.

That's probably true, but how likely is it to happen? I'd imagine that most people who drink at all drive regularly after having > 1 beer per hour, which is all that it takes to be over the legal limit. If that's the case, I'd call such a person who does so regularly a hypocrite even if he disavows such actions after each such instance.

And what gives you the right to assume that people do this? You don't know any of us personally, that I'm aware of.
