    (CNN) -- A person who shot 13 people Thursday at Northern Illinois University's DeKalb campus outside Chicago has died, local reports said.

    Most of the 13 wounded were shot in the head, said Theresa Comitas, spokeswoman for Kishwaukee Community Hospital, located about 10 minutes from the school.

    Jesus, what is wrong with these people. Life can suck. I get it; I've had setbacks in my life. If you can't gut it out and get through it...then get some counseling. If that doesn't work...then go out in the fucking basement and pull a Cobain, but you have no god damned right to take a bunch of innocent lives with you.

    DEKALB, Ill. - A man armed with two handguns and a shotgun opened fire Thursday in a packed lecture hall on the campus of Northern Illinois University, reportedly killing four people and wounding at least 14 others before killing himself, authorities said.
    The Associated Press quoted university Police Chief Donald Grady as saying five people were dead, including the gunman. The police department's spokesman, Pat Erickson, told NBC News he could not confirm the report.
    A spokeswoman for Kishiwaukee Community Hospital said six of the victims were in critical condition.

    I agree 100% with Muck and others. In my mind, if the press get back to providing us with intelligent analysis and reporting that helps us make informed decisions, instead of sensationalizing instances like this, then much of this will disappear.

    Don't forget, by the way, that al-Qaeda began its operations right here in Cape Town, by bombing Planet Hollywood. We had a period where more than 30 bombs were going off a month in Cape Town 15 years ago. Although this was reported, it was not sensationalized. The government worked quietly behind the scenes to mobilize mainstream Muslims and members of other religious groups to encourage religious tolerance and appreciation of religious diversity.

    It took a bit longer than a year, but the problem disappeared. South Africa has its own problems with social violence, which is higher than the US, but this is getting better every day. However, we don't have people walking into schools and shopping malls blowing people away. We don't have a problem with random killings. I am positive that Muck is right in suggesting that this has something to do with press coverage and glorification of these guys.

    If you disagree, ask yourself this. Would fewer people would be willing to strap on explosives and commit suicides, if they thought that their image would not be widely broadcast and that they would not achieve some status of heroes in their community?

    I live 20 minutes away from the NIU Campus. I have family members enrolled and employed on the Campus.(all Ok, thank God) I work at a hospital here. The feeling here in Northern Illinois is an amazing range of emotion. The local media is doing a very good job of turning the focus off the mentally disturbed bastard, and keeping the attention on the victims. V-Tech hurt, but this puts it on my doorstep. Really, How do you Stop this senselessness?
