Whenever I read about a "mad gunman" stalking halls or rooms at someplace, and read the survivor accounts of people "running for the doors and screaming" and such the first thing I think is "Get the F down on the floor! Screaming attracts attention to you and running makes you a broadside target! Sheesh."

Panic, I know but dang.

A sad possible outcome of this phenomena of college campus shooting is a lockdown situation all the time. Instead of a campus that people can come and go on freely, people will have to pass through gates to show cause for being on the grounds, or show i.d.s, or something similar. The colleges are already talking about ways to change access to attempt to prevent these situations. And that makes me sad. Places of learning should not have such an air of "prison" or the constant underlay of fear driven by being faced with such precautionary measures on a day to day basis.

How would that help? Both this and VT were caused by school students who had every right to be there.
