Michigan announces Sherrone Moore as full-time head coach

Michigan has its man.

Two days after Jim Harbaugh bolted to the NFL and the Los Angeles Chargers, the national champion Wolverines promoted offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Sherrone Moore to head coach, the school announced Friday.

Moore went unbeaten during the four games in which he replaced Harbaugh last season. Now, he replaces him as Michigan's head coach on a full-time basis.

On the same day that Harbaugh bolted for the NFL and the Chargers' head coaching job, Michigan's All-America guard Zak Zinter tweeted: "No interviews needed. It's Papa Moore's time."

And now, officially, it is.

4 years and gone.

Sherrone ”Show cause” Moore.

I think 3

2024 won't be a total disaster. There's enough left for them to avoid collapsing to lower B1G teams, but they aren't beating the better ones. I think 8-4 seems about right. scUM fans will chalk it up as a "rebuild year" with a new coach getting his feet wet.

2025 is the real rebuild rebuild year when almost all the holdovers from the national title team are gone too. This is when the real mess hits. It starts becoming obvious that they are declining to like Hoke level. This is when they start grumbling that Michigan screwed up and shoulda had a real coaching search instead of just automatically appointing Sherrone. It's still too early to pull the plug though, they won't admit they made the wrong choise that quick.

2026 similar to 2025, this is where they pull the plug though and he's gone.

The NCAA transfer portal opens for 30 days after a head coach leaves, so Michigan players who choose to transfer have through Feb. 23 to enter their names in the portal. Once a player enters his name in the portal, he can be contacted by other schools, but also Michigan no longer is required to honor the scholarship. The player also can withdraw his name from the portal, but, again, Michigan does not have to honor the scholarship.

Just sayin': The transfer portal is now officially open for scUM players........8D

New Michigan Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore contract details revealed

Michigan football wasted no time replacing former head coach Jim Harbaugh, announcing just 48 hours later that offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore has been named the 21st head coach in program history.

Moore is the first Wolverines headman who already has a perfect win percentage, having gone 4-0 in his tenure as the maize and blue’s interim head coach in 2023, with wins over Bowling Green, Penn State, Maryland, and Ohio State. But, this is his first time being a bona fide head coach, thus there’s some question in terms of compensation.

The reported contract being offered Harbaugh was $12.5M per year, but according to The Detroit News’ Angelique Chengelis, Moore is signing a five-year deal starting at $5.5M per year.
