Shaun Crawford (DB Notre Dame)

This highlights the fundamental flaw of Hoke's "no visit" policy, which I've seen clarified numerous times reading updates on Shaun Crawford.

The policy is that if you are committed they won't recruit your position in the class anymore but if you visit other schools Hoke will start recruiting "over you" at your position.

It's pretty easy to see why #1 they get a bunch of early commits with this strategy and #2 they fail miserably down the stretch and in general with elite players who can't be "recruited over" in the first place.

I have heard from friends that follow Cleveland HS football that his dad really bought into the "disrespect" card that Hoke played. That might be the most difficult thing for Ohio State to overcome.

They like Urban, especially Shaun. I think at the time of the first commit they bought into that but not so much now. ND didn't recruit him seriously until recently. Diaco thought he was too short to play DB. So I'm not sure that's a big factor.
One thing to watch for, I'm not sure they've met Coach Ash yet. As the person that would be Shaun's position coach, he could have a big hand in potentially vaulting tOSU back into the thick of this (at least more so than they appear at this moment).

It seemed likely that months and months of non-stop attention would chip away at any edge Hoke was able to build early on based on his favorite recruiting strategy.

Hopefully the upcoming visit will put any lingering doubts the Crawford family may have to rest. Additionally, based on the early offers to '16 players it seems like Meyer and company are adjusting to get a jump on this sort of situation in the future.

Wonder if Urb's strategy of 'offering the OOS players first' will get touched on when Shaun visits? Hopefully someone, someday will expound how that is perceived. Quite clearly it backfired in this case, and Hoke swooped in to capitalize. Yeah, it looks like a reversal in strategy on the '16 players, which makes Ahians happy to see the fences around the state go back up. 'Course it helps that the '16 class is stacked with 5* talent.......Go Bucks

Ohio doesn't have elite 2015 talent on a national scale like 2016 does. Urban is going after the best of the best, and not following the Tressel model of going after Ohio kids. It's something fans will have to learn to get over. If 2015 had a lot more high end talent, then we'd see more offers go out, butit doesn't. The best happen to be in Fl, and much of the south. Guys like Hilliard, Baker and Scott have been made priorities and that's no secret, EGW was a guy that the staff was after for a while and Urban personally wanted him as a leader in the class(though his off the field transgressions are hurting him). Crawford is quite a talent, but let's not act like his height isn't an issue with mAny coaches when it is. The NFL has changed their view of DBs and e college game has started to follow suit. I don't think the early offers to OOS kids will matter much as we continue to win, and those wins turn into conference championships and national championships. Ohio kids that aren't highly rated in the staffs eyes, will need to camp and earn offers, not a hard concept to fathom as it happens at every major program. The 2014 class showed that the staff will go after Ohio kids that are up to their standards. 2014 had a lot of high end talent, 2015 doesn't as much, but 2016 does. Crawford is a very real possibility in this class, especially having Parris Campbell enrolled as well. cHoke can use the "they passed over you, now use that as fuel" angle all he wants, if that's his gimmick then let it be. But I have noticed that scUM has very few kids at OSU offered...

According to his offer timeline at 247 he had an offer from Arkansas (Chris Ash) two months before he had that offer from Michigan.

LAKEWOOD, Ohio -- St. Edward sprinter Shaun Crawford will not participate in Wednesday's first day of competition at the Division I Lakewood district track meet and in turn will not be able to compete in three events throughout the postseason.

Crawford, a state placer in two individual events last year to help the Eagles claim the team title, was suspended Tuesday for three days due to an "internal school matter," said Eagles coach Bill Menz. The coach refused to elaborate on the suspension
