It's funny that's what's in his mind. With such antics as:
two years before your contract is up, walking up the court to defense screaming "Pay me" to Jerry Buss.
"I got hurt on company time, I'll rehab on company time"
Getting fat, slow and putting out less and less effort.
Granted, I thought the guy would finish his career as a Laker, but the reality of that situation was this. A decision had to be made financially, Shaq was getting 28mil a year, and Kobe had broken out and became a star in this league, so finances came into play.
Keep the young, get rid of the old, especially when the old is throwing temper tantrums and you have a future to build on.
But Shaq won a title immediately after being outed in LA, with a lesser calibre player in D-Wade. If Kobe doesn't win another title, Kobe will forever be known as a great player who won his titles on the coat-tails of Shaq. Fair or not.
True, and I was happy for him. I didn't really like what the Lakers did when they got rid of Shaq or the way it went down, I didn't like the trade but as a fan you go as the team does. But there was always this thought from a lot of the Lakers fans of wishing the guy well.
They both have huge ego's, and I think it's pretty obvious Shaq wanted LA to lose in the championship as much as Kobe wanted to win it. And Shaq's line about Kobe being the 'cause for his divorice doesn't seem like "fun" even if that's what he's stating now.
I'm not going to lie, I love seeing the behind the scenes type stuff like this. I wish superstars had a few too many in them more often and grabbed the mic. It'd be fun to listen to Paul Pierce talk about a hit on Al Horford or any other dirty laundry that should be public knowledge....
:tongue2:
Overall, I don't think a whole lot will come of this. Some sound bites over the coming weeks, and talk show fodder more than anything. Buss will have a talk with Kobe asking him not to respond, hopefully he doesn't, just smiles and says nothing but the right things.
Kobe is currently in a much better situation than Shaq. Both are on good teams, but the Lakers are young, getting better, I expect them to do some work in free agency and get more defensive next year.
Either way, it's funny shit.
