If we do manage to add Middleton this Saturday, man, what a class on the heels of the 2022 class.
That to me has been the biggest thing lacking during the Holtmann era. I think the coaching, culture, and player development have all been pretty good overall. But we've rarely had notable talent advantages in games against other T25 teams, and these past couple seasons we didn't have enough depth of quality talent to overcome some key injuries to the level needed for significant achievements.
If you can follow up the top ten 2022 class (and hold onto some of those guys) with a 2023 class that contains GW3, Middleton, Royal, and Parks, though... then we just might be cooking with gas.

I concur with what you said, pretty much it is so much talent I don't think anyone can screw it up. Middleton would be a huge and unexpected addition (at least to me, maybe I was not paying attention). I just hope we can keep the nucleus of those players together for a season or two. I think this year is going to be a little brutal in terms of results and I hope we can weather that storm with recruiting. There are scenarios in which we could have a good season, but even my typically optimistic self when it comes to basketball is bracing for a season of rebuilding.
But back to the topic of the thread, Middleton would be YUGEEEE to add to an already great class.

Make it two top-75 commitments in less than a week for Chris Holtmann’s 2023 recruiting class.
Following Devin Royal’s commitment on Wednesday, four-star Kansas wing Scotty Middleton joined what was already a top-five class in the country when he pledged to Ohio State Sunday. A 6-foot-6, 180-pound rising senior at Sunrise Christian in Wichita, Middleton is now the top-rated prospect in the Buckeyes’ class with an overall ranking of No. 34 in the country, per the 247Sports composite.
Middleton is now the fourth commit in the 2023 class for the Buckeyes. All four hold four-star status in the 247Sports composite. Middleton is the only out-of-state commit in Ohio State’s class, joining Chaminade Julienne’s George Washington III (No. 60 overall), Pickerington Central’s Devin Royal (No. 73) and St. Marys Memorial’s Austin Parks (No. 105). (Washington lived in Louisville when he committed to Ohio State, but has since moved to Dayton.)
Four could be the magic number for the Buckeyes in the 2023 cycle, but don’t rule out the possibility of one more commit before all is said and done.

Jury is still out for me. Gotta see him win some meaningful end of season games 1st for me say he's a program saver. It's OSU. Expectations are always high....... I know it will never be football, but some of us want the baskerball program to be as successful as the football program too.

What a get to bring Scotty out of Kansas. Have we ever landed a bball recruit out of Kansas before? Welcome aboard Scotty! The '23 class has a lot of talent and is well-balanced regardless of whether we add another recruit. Put this class with the '22 class and we better see a deep tourney run, because the talent (on paper at least) can't get much better at OSU for basketball really. But for now I will just be thankful that Scotty choose the good guys.

I would love to see that but I'm not sure it's feasible, not when football is so clearly #1 for the university and its fans and alumni. Peak Thad was nearly as good as it gets for OSU basketball and even that doesn't really match what Tressell, Urban, and now Day have been doing.
I guess the real question there is what does OSU-football-level-success even look like for basketball? The blue-bloods and top programs in basketball don't have the same kind of consistently high level of success that the top football programs have, there is just way too much parity in college basketball and our NC-deciding Tournament is a field of 68 where one game of off-shooting, bad luck, bad calls, bad match-up, the other team playing out of their minds, etc. can send you home early, regardless of how good you were in the regular season.
Holtmann does have a good performance baseline going here, though many might not care to admit that. People scoff at the 20-win season thing but only 2 other P5 programs have done that every season in the time that Holtmann has been at OSU, and Holtmann typically schedules a tougher than average OOC and the B1G has had a lot of competitive depth most of the seasons he has been at OSU. He also makes the Dance every season, and that to me is possibly the most important fundamental criteria. Because anything can happen in the Dance, but anything can't happen for you there if you're not in it.
We all want to see better high-end results, though, that is a given. We've been sitting on that corner without quite being able to turn it into a notable achievement, be it a conference championship, conference tournament championship, or S16 (or better) appearance. And under Holtmann we've been close to all of those things at various points, but no cigar. It's certainly frustrating but at the same time it is important to have perspective and be realistic about how the program is doing in the larger scheme of things. Hopefully the up-tick in recruiting will help lead to the steps forward we all want to see.
