The writing was on the wall 2 weeks ago when he wasn't available due to "Family issues"....In the portal per 11W. I hate what college sports have become. Good luck, Scotty.
Yeah, Scotty played well. I will say what we saw of his game at OSU was pretty limited to basically catch & shoot stuff, he was very good at it, but I doubt his role was going to expand much this upcoming season & perhaps he wanted a larger role. Plus, the family emergency in Miami might be real, so let's not ignore that completely. Also, no top-50 recruit wants to come off the bench, and it's exceedingly common for guys to transfer when their coach is fired. I don't put this transfer on Diebler at all. Honestly, with so many guys transferring in college basketball - well over 1,000 per year - as long as the whole team's not in the portal, I'm not raising an eyebrow. To me, it always looked like he was playing good ball. Always dogging someone, cutting off passing lanes, taking an open shot (and usually making it). Plus mostly the #6th man, which is huge on any team. Maybe the friendly demeanor of Diebs on tv isn't the one the players see? Or did Devin Royal seem to pass him? Thought Taison Chatham might be one to flee, as when he was put in, he got taken to the cleaners on D several times, and got jerked pretty quickly. Anyway, it's truth time for Diebs, so let's see him earn his dough. Go Bucks!
Definitely don't blame Diebler at all, but on transfers my two categories are "bummer" or "best of luck". Middleton and Gayle falls in the bummer category, whereas Hardman lands in the best of luck category. Getting Meechie helps temporarily negate Middleton leaving. But as you said, firing your coach almost guarantees some transfers now, so I can't say I'm surprised.Yeah, Scotty played well.
