SG Malaki Branham (B1G Freshman of the Year, San Antonio Spurs)

Really hope he sticks around next year, but if he keeps playing like this it could be a special season this year. I guess I just need to enjoy the ride.

He's the most efficient player I can remember. Then again, I'm old. I have trouble remembering what I had for breakfast.
But seriously, if you see a player with that kind of shooting efficiency you assume he's taking all of his shots from 2 feet and closer. Amazing job by the young man.

I love Malaki's game and everything I've heard about him off the court. But Sunday's game didn't help his draft stock. He is definitely a big time player, but I'm really hoping we get one more year from him. I believe it would be good for him and great for tOSU.

2022 NBA Mock Draft: Shake-Up in the Top 5, Full 2-Round Predictions

  1. 28. Memphis Grizzlies: Malaki Branham (Ohio State, SG, Freshman)

A 35-point game at Nebraska in January caught scouts' attention, but Branham started playing his way into the 2022 draft during February. The 18-year-old took over at Illinois, scoring 31 points in a road win after going for 27 points against Indiana and 22 points versus Iowa. Though not an explosive athlete, Branham passes the eye test with 6'5" size and three-level scoring skills, most notably a strong mid-range pull-up game and accurate three-point shooting (44.1 percent).

This cannot be correct.

"I think he will have a decision to make too. I'll sit down with him and his family and we will talk about it,” Holtmann said of Branham after the NCAA Tournament loss. “I'm sure he will want to go through the process.

"I think that decision... I have not had specific conversations with his family. I think I will when we get back. I'm assuming he will do everything in terms of going through the process. It is certainly a possibility. I'll advise him as they ask for it. We will have conversations with his family and at the end of the day, I will support whatever decision is best."

As Holtmann said, Branham is likely to declare for the NBA Draft while maintaining his eligibility in case he decides to return. He can then work out for teams and get evaluated before making his final decision.

Does he come back to the Buckeyes and look to lead the Scarlet and Gray on his own next year or achieve his professional dreams and take his shot at the NBA Draft? Branham will have until June 13 to decide his future.
