Just like we saw with Ledee and Washington, Muhammad’s greatest asset is his ability to score. He’s the best pure scorer of the bunch, and the only one with a truly defined position: he’s a shooting guard, through and through. Capable of beating defenses in a bevy of ways, Muhammad is at his best off of the pass, either as a sharp shooter or slasher, and has one of the best shooting strokes of any recruit in the nation.
His mixture of athleticism and high-level shooting talent make Muhammad a very viable offensive threat, but he’s also very active defensively. He averaged two steals per game as a junior last season, and has the size to guard anyone the rigorous Big Ten schedule throws at him.
Muhammad’s ceiling is sky-high. Ohio State has put a coaching staff in place that excels at developing players, and while he’s likely not a one-and-done type, Luther Muhammad could be an all-Big Ten player if he develops correctly. He’s the best pure scorer Ohio State has landed since D’Angelo Russell.
congrats to luther. I think what we can expect is roughly jordan sibert. Now before people think I am downplaying luther, jordan had a rough start here, but ended up leading dayton's e8 team in scoring as a junior and was first team a10 as a senior. I see a lot of similarities between the two.
agreed. biggest difference between sibert and muhammad? defense. sibert was certainly a poor shooter as a freshman and sophomore, but it was his lackluster defense that matta found most upsetting. this will not be the case for muhammad. if for no other reason, that is why luther will absolutely get big minutes his first season.I see where you are coming from in that they are SGs with roughly similar builds/athleticism, but they are still pretty different players. Sibert had more of a shooter's rep out of HS than Luther has (though Luther is efficient shooting the ball in low volume). Luther is a bit better at ballhandling, slashing, passing, and shows way more appetite for D. I think his first couple years we might not see a ton of offense out of Luther but I think we will instantly see more defensive commitment and excellence then we got from Sibert.

as far as offense goes, there are substantial differences between the two, at least when projecting muhammad. as a junior and senior, 60% of sibert's attempts were 3-pointers. he averaged under 2 assists. he was mostly a jump shooter. muhammad, on the other hand, is best when breaking down the defender. he's certainly a solid outside shooter, but i think he'll end up putting the ball on the court a bit more than sibert did. both muhammad and washington have the tools to be dynamic point guards while likely being most threatening when playing off the ball.
