Dispatch

Diebler had 32 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 blocks in a 104-75 loss against Dante Jackson and Greenfield McClain.

Fist off let me say that Jackson and McClain are a really good team and would not be suprised to see them in Columbus for the state tournament. Jackson is going to make Xavier very happy.

As for Diebler he is a one man show out there basically and when his shots werent falling the team struggled. Basically Upper doesnt play a whole lot of defense, they press, and try to get turnovers, but a sound team like McClain turns that in to open layups all game long. It was a putrid display of defense from Upper.

As for Diebler he has a very pure stroke can take his guy off the dribble, and can shoot it from anywhere. When he gets here in a structured offense he is going to be very good and could go off for a lot of points on a nite if he gets hot. He reminds me of Cook in that his body doesnt have to be square to the hoop for him to score. He doesnt have the athletic ability of Cook, but he has an even better shot than Cook. He is still going to have to get stronger an work on man to man defense to be able to get the minutes here.

He also had 4 fouls with 6 minutes left in the 3rd quarter which really took him out of his game to be able to go to the hole.

Buddy of mine was at the game and said that Diebler plays absolutely NO defense.

Well alot of that has to do with the style of play that Upper plays. It usually ends up being 1 on 2 and Diebler being the 1. The whole style of defense is basically go for the steal or hope they miss layups and if they don't then we will try and outscore them.

Also in the second half he did not attempt to play D due to his 4 fouls, so he was not even contesting shots.

He mentioned to me about him playing that way all game.

He told me he got in foul trouble the 2nd half.

Koufos is the one he came away raving about.

Exactally, and I really was impressed with Lauderdale and his physical abiility. Not so much with his coaching and how they utilized him...

All players will be fine once they are in a structured system with good coaching...

Yeah Van Reeth used to coach my old HS before he went to Solon.

I think it has more to do with the way Upper plays. He had many steals the game i got to see, but they really didnt guard under the basket. The seemed to contest perimeter shots OK, by dousle teaming and forcing turnvers, but once someone was open inside, they would easily get the layup.

Diebler can play defense, but due to Upper's style of play, the team as a whole does not really play solid defense. Jon is a guy who will need to get stronger and improve on defense if he wants to be a complete player, the kid can shoot from anywhere on the court.

Jon is great kid. He can shoot lights out. As said he will need to improve his defense and will be a good addition to the team. I look for him to play the 2 and or the 3. I have gone to a few of Upper's games and he does really well. Like most high school teams his is not too defensively minded but Jon does well within the scheme.
