Diebler, Langhurst share top Division II award

By Dave Feltner, [email protected]

One of the best players in Ohio was confirmed among the elite in Northwest Ohio Thursday.

A Northwest Ohio media panel selected Upper Sandusky junior Jon Diebler Associated Press Division II co-player of the year with Willard's Jimmy Langhurst.

Diebler, a second-team All-Ohio selection as a sophomore, averaged 35.5 points, 9.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 4.1 blocks per game during the regular season.

Last year, Diebler helped the Rams capture their first state championship, and he did it in style, setting state tournament records with seven 3-pointers in a single game and eight in two. This season, he made 46 percent (67 of 147) behind the arc and 86 percent (186 of 216) from the foul line.
His top highlight this season came Jan. 13 when he snapped a school record and poured in 77 points during a 105-100 overtime victory at Columbian. Diebler set a state record that night when he made 27 free throws (in 28 attempts). That mark ranks sixth nationally.

Diebler and Upper lost to Willard 101-98 last night in the District Final game, Diebler put on a show scoring 55 points but equally impressive was Jimmy Langurst who also scored 55 points for Willard. Unbelievable game.

That is pretty cool.

I just hope he uses this offseason to get bigger b/c he could be a very good player for us, but he is going to need to get bigger.

Dielber is ranked as the #17 shooting guard in the 2007 class, I believe with solid to great performances on the summer AAU ciruit, this will change. Remember that last year he missed the majority of the AAU season due to illness.

Underrated right now in my opinion....:wink2:

I have no problem with him flying under the radar, with all the guys we have coming in. He will come in with a chip on his shoulder and once he gets bigger, he has the chance to just explode in the college game.
