SG Daequan Cook (Ironi Hai Motors Nes-Ziona - Israel)

Cook is averaging 2.15 fouls per game, 2nd most on the team behind Oden, who is averaging 2.31.

Of course, Oden is averaging 30 minutes per game to Cook's 22 and Oden is a shot blocker, so he should be committing more fouls than Cook.

As far as his defensive abilities, well until he starts to play better team defense he will not start or get increased minutes. He has some work to do on the defensive end.
Do you still think he is a one and done? I think he has the offensive game that the NBA likes but I am very concerned about his defense.

I think what is happening is that Cook is meeting some physical defenders on the offensive end and he is trying to concentrate on getting better at D which is taking his confidnece down...

Cook has all the tools and he will some big games before the season ends...The best thing about this team is that if one guy is cold then you have another to step up...All frosh go thru down time and this is just Cook's. Hopefully he snaps out of it soon...

As for the NBA they still have him listed in mock drafts as going in the top 20 but his stock has dropped a little but with a good end to the season he will be right back in the top 10-15 range...

Its just my opinion but if you look at Cook's performance this year, he has some areas to really improve on......I just think it would be good for him to wait another year but the NBA and the money is hard to pass on......I understand it.......I just hope he makes the best decision for him.

I, for one, will be surprised to see either one go after this year. Both have a lot they can still learn and with the recruiting class we have coming in, they could both go out on top next year winning a national championship before heading to the league (think Marvin Williams or Carmelo Anthony).

Here is my opinion on the situation...

Lots of these kids come from inner city, and when they are fed the $'s and the shoe contracts and yadda yadda, they jump...They get told that an injury and all that could be taken away...IMO there was a good chance that if that rule wouldnt of come in last year that Cook might of made the jump right of high school...Just some things I have heard and seen written from NBA scouts and such that lead me to believe that he fits that mold of the guys that will jump early...

Keep in mind when we think rational about this kid needs to work on this and that, the NBA is a totally different animal than college bball so Cook's defensive defencies arent that bad in the NBA especially with his ability to score and the potential that he has...

As for Oden I will keep it short since this is not his thread but the wrist injury changed his outlook on things...JMO, but also based on a couple things I have heard and read...

As an old 'baller, I never had the skills or opportunity to make millions playing a sport I so loved, but played up until my early forties.......Daquean does need some more 'game' to play in the pros. He was more dominant as a HSer, of course, and his college game lacks a bit. I don't think that the NBA gives big money to small guards, but to the big men (you can't coach heighth). He needs to develop some D (it really does exist in the NBA, but it's so sophisticated you needs to be aware), and his 'J' isn't always on. Plus he needs to work on separation and consistency. Give him a year in the weight room, and next year and yeah, he's gonna opt for the bucks (not the OSU kind, but the green ones).

Oden is more polished in his position than DC is in his. He's ready to go now. Center moves are fewer and slower than the 1's, 2's, and 3's (the basic scorers), and he could score against Shaquille (could do a passable job of getting in his way on D also). But the last poster was right. The injury has changed his thinking, and I read that he's big on education, but I only give him one more year also.

Remember, they could both declare for the draft, not like their position, (not hire an agent), and come back to college. My nickel is on them doing that next year. So enjoy 'em while we can.

I am not as focused on his defensive abilities when talking about his draft standing, I know they don't play defense in the NBA.

I guess I just look at Cook and I do not see a lottery pick at this point, things may change before the end of the season, but the way he is playing right now, its obvious to me that he has lost some confidence and he seems to be tentative with the ball, not exactly the type of play you expect for a one and done player. With that said, players are drafted on potential and he certainly has potential.

I agree......the risk is to high for him to come back next year in my opinion.

Exactally it is all about potential, and Cook has had good games, and will have quite a few more by seasons end and his stock could really rise with good games in the tourney...

Keep in mind he was at #10 in early mock drafts, but now I have seen him around 21. The NBA scouts like what they see, so any kind of good games and his stock will rise...

do people really question his defensive "ability"?? its been obvious he has the ability i question his defensive "consistency" the kid flat our locks down one trip down the floor then fouls off the ball 30 feet from the hoop.

this kid oozes lottery pick. he can attack the rim (unless its an uncontested dunk) he can pull up, he can hit the 25 footer. hes shown me all of that. i have no doubts in his offensive game. i go back to his perceived slump beiing cook forcing his game in fewer minutes. only once (1/2) since the first of the year has he played 25 minutes. people question his offense, he has 12 double digit point games six 20 pt outbursts, he still shots over 51% from the floor, 47% from 3land while dragging down 5.5 boards a game.

like all these kids they can play. so people seem over critical or quickly willing to overpraise.
