Buford Not Ready To Say Goodbye
By Brandon Castel
NEWARK, N.J. ? It took William Buford a while to come out of his funk.
With a towel draped over his head, he sat in the locker room after the game, staring blankly at the reporters gathered around him.
He couldn?t believe what had just happened. No one could.
Ohio State?s smooth-shooting junior had missed the game-winning three in the final moments as the Buckeyes were bounced from the Sweet 16 for the second year in a row.
?I feel like I let the team down,? said Buford, who could have given Ohio State a 63-62 win had he connected on his three from the top-left of the circle.
?I didn?t do what I was capable of doing.?
After scoring 18 points in three straight games, Buford could not find his touch at the Prudential Center in New Jersey. He was just 2-of-16 from the floor against the Wildcats, and after the game he wasn?t ready to say goodbye to Ohio State.
?From where we just ended, this isn?t where I wanted to end it,? Buford said.
?I love these guys and I don?t want it to end.?
Considered a borderline first-round prospect at the start of the season, Buford?s stock had been on the rise recently. He was being projected as a mid-first round pick if chose to leave after his junior season, but Buford said he has no intentions of jumping early to the NBA.
?I?ll be back,? Buford told the-Ozone in the locker room.
?I just want to get better so when I do go to the next level, I?ll be prepared to make an impact and not just go to be another player in the league.?

Let's not even look at the shot selection overall.
But in the end, if a player is ice cold, the coach needs to make those adjustments.

he was taken out twice during the game when Thomas came in.DZ83CK;1899211; said:I don't think he really took bad shots, he just rushed a couple he doesn't normally rush, and UK guarded him as well as anybody has all year & blocked some of his shots. Maybe he could've put WB on the bench for a few minutes, but that doesn't necessarily take UK's great defenders out of the game.
you are absolutely correct it is a worthless discussion especially after the season that he hadsparcboxbuck;1899214; said:+1
We didn't bitch during the season when he took a shot... we don't bitch now.
</worthless discussion>
I'm pretty sure Matta did bench him in favor of Thomas for a couple minutes. UK just played an outstanding defense game and yet game came down to an incredible last second shot and a last second miss.DZ83CK;1899211; said:I don't think he really took bad shots, he just rushed a couple he doesn't normally rush, and UK guarded him as well as anybody has all year & blocked some of his shots. each time buford was benched for thomas, calipari isolated thomas, who then did his best impression of a torero. diebler and thomas on the floor together were easy-pickings for kentucky.Systems_id;1899913; said:I'm pretty sure Matta did bench him in favor of Thomas for a couple minutes.
William Buford isn't sure why, but for some reason, Buckeye fans find him hard to believe.
During the season, the junior said he planned to be back for his senior year. After the season ending loss to Kentucky, he said it again. Yet a day doesn't go by when Buford is not asked if he'll be a Buckeye next season or if he's leaving school early for the NBA.
"Every time I walk on campus, or when I'm out somewhere, they always ask," Buford said. "I tell them for sure I'm coming back. I probably need to go on Twitter and say it. It's probably the only way they'll believe me."
...
"I love this school, I love this program and I want to get a degree," Buford said. "You've got to have a back-up plan. Basketball is not forever."
