SF William Buford - 4 BTT Title Games, most Buckeye starts (Virtus Roma - Italy)

Do you think William will be working on his strength? After the run the Cowboys had this year, he will need to recharge his batteries. He'll be strong enough when he joins the Buckeyes later this year.

Obviously he will be working in the offseason on his strength...j

Here is what NBADraft.net | Home had to say about his peformance...

William Buford (Ohio State) 6 pts, (3-9 fg) 1 reb, 1 ast -- Buford faced off with fellow wing freak Scotty Hopson and though Hopson seemed to get the upper hand, Buford showed a lot of upside. He'll need to work on developing better discipline with his shot selection.

Basically most continue to question his shot selection in the game and say he needs to work on upper body strength but the skill and upside are there, to go along with his improvement over the summer and we will see a very good player here next year...

I am kinda wavering on my stance of Buford being a one and done...If he has the type of season next year that he is capable of and develops that upper body strength he will be ready to go, and really the talent level won't be as high in the draft next year as it will be this year...

Either way I am very excited about Buford's potential for next year, and I think that he is better prepared mentally than some...He was the star of AAU where his team always did well, he led his team to the state finals, and played against some very good competition at Libbey...

I think the first thing that any high school basketball player who is going to play college ball should work on the strength and as soon as he can be forgetting to college. Besides the normal basketball skills, I think this is one of the most important things for a 17-18 year old kid to work on before he gets to college. No matter the sport.

Other than hitting the weight room, he could run HS track. I think running the 400 or 800m would build endurance, leg and core strength. I don't what he's doing this spring/summer, but to be sure, he will be bouncing the round ball somewhere.

OHIO'S MR. BASKETBALL
Libbey's Buford named a Parade All-American

By STEVE JUNGA
BLADE SPORTS WRITER

Libbey High School senior basketball star William Buford has garnered yet another prestigious award. The 6-foot, 5-inch shooting guard has been named to the 10-player first team on the 52nd annual Parade All-America Boys' Basketball squad. The 2008 All-America teams will be featured in the Parade Magazine supplement in The Blade on Sunday. Buford is joined on the Parade first team by fellow Ohio State recruit B.J. Mullens, a 7-1 center from Ohio's Canal Winchester High School. Brandon Jennings, a 6-2 guard from Oak Hill Academy, a prep school in Virginia, is the 2008 Parade boys' player of the year. "It's a real big honor," Buford said of the Parade selection. "It feels like my hard work has paid off. It feels good to be named to the first team, but I still feel I need to keep working harder to get better." On March 12, Buford was named Ohio's Mr. Basketball for 2008, the highest award for state high school players. He was previously named to the 20-member Jordan Brand All-America team, and to the 24-member McDonald's All-America team. Buford played in the 32nd annual McDonald's all-star game Wednesday, scoring six points, including two dunks.

Buford looked pretty solid last night in his limited minutes. He showed good strength around the basket and was able to finish on most of his scoring opportunities. The Bucks will need that to continue into next year.

I really look forward to seeing his full game. All star games are not good for an off the ball, unselfish player to show off his mid-range, all around game.

Buford excels in New York

NEW YORK - Libbey's William Buford scored 13 points and grabbed three rebounds Saturday night as his team prevailed 124-114 at Madison Square Garden in the Jordan Brand Classic, a showcase of the nation's top high school basketball players that is hosted by former NBA great Michael Jordan.

Jordan Brand Classic player-by-player breakdown

6-5 SG William Buford (Ohio State): Buford did not shoot the ball as well from the perimeter as he normally does. When he did look to use the mid-range pull-up, he efficiently needed only one or two dribbles to get in position for the shot. Though he missed frequently, he has a nice, high release on jump shot. Buford surprised with his defensive effort, hounding opposing guards and not allowing them to get to their comfort spots on the floor.

The best part about that report IMO is the talk about his defense...He was shutting down some of the best in the country...We all know he is very efficient with his jumper and that will be there...So to hear is defense is looking good is a great report...

With he, Lighty, Turner, Diebler, Offut we have great length on the wing and great defenders...Once again it will be hard for teams to score against us next season...
