SF LaQuinton Ross (Memphis Hustle - NBA G-League)

The Draft Express writer said that choosing to play for Matta was one of the best decisions Ross has ever made but also criticized Ross' defensive fundamentals & effort. The writer implied that the decision to go to OSU was good because it will force Ross to improve on the D end in order to earn PT. The writer stated that some scouts question Ross' college decision (because PT is hard to earn at OSU) - those scouts apparently doubt that he will improve his D enough to earn enough PT to be happy.

I really wonder about that game and that writer. Rivals scouts were at the same game (Hoophall Classic) and commented positively on his defense. Makes you wonder if these guys were watching the same game.

For starters, Ross did an excellent job defending 7-footer Kaleb Tarczewski, who is one of the top centers in the 2012 class.

Defensively, Ross did a nice job defending Kaleb Tarczewski in the post and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. Ross is one of the top marksmen coming into the college game next year. If he develops his strength and improves his motor, he will be an impact player for the Buckeyes.

Does Laquinton's school Life Center Academy get to participate in the New Jersey playoffs. I was looking for them on the NJ high school athletic website and could not find them. Anyone have any info?
No, they do not. I believe his high school season and career are over.

NBA Scouts at Derby Classic
Posted on April 22, 2011 by Rick Bozich

It?s never too early for NBA scouts to start filling their notebooks with reports on young players. At least three NBA scouts are here at the KFC Yum! Center for the Derby Classic all-star game, which tips at 7 p.m.

*Early reports that I have heard say that LaQuinton Ross (Ohio State) and LeBryan Nash (Oklahoma State) have been the two best players during practices. Also heard that Anthony Hickey, Mr. Basketball in Kentucky, has looked very good.

Ohio State signee LaQuinton Ross had 26 points, 14 rebounds and five assists for the Gold, while Michigan State signee Branden Dawson added 23 points.

if laquinton plays with consistent tenacity and composure, i think he'll be a nationally elite player. when coupling his size with his skill set, it's easy to see a phenom. we've not seen a player like lqr at ohio state. i thought the same of mullens, though. we'll see.

Dude I'm telling you guys I think he's going to be really really good.

It's really no shocker when he was the number one rated player in his class just a couple years ago, it's not like he came out of nowhere... just had a couple of supposed underachieving years.

Why is your post directed towards me?

Just a fan getting excited about a future player. Really no shocker. Not trying to be some great talent evaluator.

Top newcomers in Big Ten basketball
By Jason King

LaQuinton Ross, Ohio State, F ? The 43rd-ranked player in the Class of 2011, Ross is skilled enough to earn early minutes for the Big Ten-favorite Buckeyes. He has an exceptional outside stroke for a player of his size, routinely connecting from both midrange and beyond the arc. The biggest question mark surrounding Ross is his work ethic, energy and dedication to playing hard on both ends of the court.
