Wallace says he?ll join Matta?s next class

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
Ohio State will not announce until Monday the addition of a fifth player to its 2007 men?s basketball recruiting class, but his letter of intent is signed, sealed and possibly delivered, the recruit?s father said.
Eric Wallace, a 6-foot-6, 215-pound forward from Kernersville, N.C., and a senior at Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia, signed with the Buckeyes on Thursday night, Monty Wallace said yesterday.
Ohio State coach Thad Matta was unable to comment on Wallace yesterday, however. A letter of intent must go through the athletic department?s compliance office before Matta can comment on a recruit.
"He liked the school, liked the coaches and felt like it was a good fit for him," Monty Wallace said of his son. "If you look at the way Eric plays and the way that Matta runs his offense, it seems like a perfect fit."
Wallace, whose athleticism fits in Matta?s plan to play fast on offense and pressure on defense, told The Roanoke (Va.) Times that he considered Virginia, from which he rescinded a commitment in September.
Wallace, ranked the No. 85 prospect in the class of 2007, joins guard Jon Diebler of Upper Sandusky, forward Kosta Koufos of Canton GlenOak, center Dallas Lauderdale of Solon and guard Evan Turner of Chicago in the OSU fold.
The Hoop Scoop recruiting service ranked the class No. 4 nationally behind Syracuse, Indiana and Kansas State and tied with Arizona.

That's all gospel to me. Especially the part about the need for rebounders and what this guy could do. The others can do the outside shooting we just want Rodman types of rebounders.OSUBasketballJunkie;658006; said:I have seen several posters talk about his lack of an outside shot and I can understand the concern, but that may be a weak spot for him, it is not going to be a weak spot for the team when he arrives on campus. With Diebler, Koufos and Turner combined with Lighty, Conley and possibly Cook, well his role will not be on the perimeter. Wallace is one of the most athletic players in the 2007 class and once he gets into the weight program, he may turn out to be the rebounder we need for these future squads, at 6-7 and around 220 already, well he could be a force down low.
Everyone who has been following the program for the past couple of years will tell you we have lacked that role player who could go get the rebounds and play solid defense, while still being a threat offensively. I feel like Wallace could feel that role down the road.

They played the University of Louisville (Doctors of Dunk) in a memorable game. Plenty of 'downward layups', and won by Houston, I believe in a quarterfinal game (prior to being beaten by NC State with the now departed Jimmy Valvano.
Which one of these guys will become the defensive stopper? It looks like David Lighty might fill that roll for the current version, but who will do that for the 09 Bucks? There's plenty of rebounding muscle with Koufos and Lauderdale (assuming that they go big), and plenty of offensive firepower, but no one that has the rep of being a defensive force.
What does this do to the recruitment of Yancy Gates?

BUCKEYES ADD FIFTH RECRUIT FOR NEXT YEAR
COLUMBUS (AP) ? Next year?s Thad Five has been finalized. Ohio State coach Thad Matta added Eric Wallace, a 6-foot-6 swingman from North Carolina, as his fifth and final recruit for the class that will enroll next fall.
Matta?s current class ? dubbed ?The Thad Five? and led by 7-0 center Greg Oden ? is currently ranked No. 5 after winning three games to take the BCA Classic over the weekend. Oden did not play and is still recuperating from surgery to repair ligament damage in his right hand. He is expected to return around the first of the year.
Wallace averaged 18 points and 10 rebounds a game for Kernersville (N.C.) Robert Glenn High School last season. He will play his senior year at Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia.
?We like his athleticism coupled with his size and skill level,? Matta said in a statement. ?He will fit well with our system and style of play.?
Last week Matta announced the signing of Jon Diebler (6-7, Upper Sandusky HS), Kosta Koufos (7-1, Canton GlenOak HS), Dallas Lauderdale (6-9, Solon HS) and Evan Turner (6-6, Westchester, Ill., St. Josephs) in the 2007-08 class.
