Basketball Buckeyes lose another:
Kosta Koufos isn't the only Ohio State freshman ready to leave Columbus. The university announced Wednesday that forward Eric Wallace will transfer after playing in fewer than half of OSU's games and averaging fewer than two points in his only season.

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
The prospect of getting little playing time again next season apparently led Eric Wallace to look for it elsewhere. Wallace, a 6-foot-5 forward on the Ohio State men's basketball team, asked to be released from his scholarship and will transfer after the spring quarter, the athletic department announced in a statement yesterday.

At several points during the season, I wondered why he wasn't getting more playing time. I thought he should have been getting around 8-10 minutes per game, as he seemed to provide a spark and some athleticism on the inside to a team that sometimes struggled in the area of banging around the boards. So I could understand his frustration during the season. I just wish he would've stuck around for another season--I think his minutes would have increased dramatically. Best of luck to him wherever he goes!

Eric had tremendous athletic ability and showed some of that early in the season. However with Buford coming in next year and with the other three wing players coming back, he probably did not see himself getting more minutes next season. He might have been able to get some minutes at the 4 position next season but I do not think his basketball skills were at the Big 10 caliber yet. I think if you would have stayed it out a couple more seasons his minutes would have increased significantly when he was a junior. Obviously, he did not want to wait that long. It is sad to see them go but it is college basketball.

Why is this under football?

Once their playing careers are done, the former Buckeye threads (regardless of sport) get placed in the Alumni forum, which happens to be a sub-forum under football.

I just hope he transfers to somewhere like Virginia, Maryland or NC State. I'd like to see him give those ACC teams fits for a few years instead of hanging around the Big10 giving fits to us. I think he'll end up being a heck of a player if he continues to work.

Eric Wallace sighting

There hasn?t been any news on transfer Eric Wallace until this week, when Jeff Goodman reported in his FoxSports.com blog that Wallace has visited DePaul and ?was contemplating a visit to LSU this weekend, but now that doesn?t appear as though it?ll happen.?

I e-mailed Wallace?s former AAU coach, Brian Clifton of Greensboro, N.C., for information on other schools Wallace is considering, but Clifton has not replied.

Neither Wallace nor any of his inner circle has commented publicly since Ohio State announced his transfer April 23. But coach Thad Matta confirmed the issue was playing time in a conversation we had a couple of weeks after the announcement.

?Eric wants to be one of those guys who plays 30 minutes a game,? Matta said. ?He said, ?Coach, I probably have to go somewhere else.??

With David Lighty, Evan Turner and Jon Diebler returning on the wings and William Buford arriving, Wallace?s prospects for playing more next season than the 4.8 minutes per game he averaged last season were not good.
